If hyperbolas still feel “random” to you… this is why students lose easy marks.

Examiners don’t mark creativity.

Here’s the system that guarantees full marks:

✅ Step 1: Find the vertical asymptote FIRST (set denominator = 0).
✅ Step 2: Draw asymptotes as DASHED lines and label them fully (x = …, y = …).
✅ Step 3: Identify the centre (where asymptotes intersect).
✅ Step 4: Use the sign to determine orientation.
Positive → top-right & bottom-left
Negative → top-left & bottom-right
✅ Step 5: Calculate and label intercepts clearly as coordinate pairs.
✅ Step 6: Draw branches approaching asymptotes smoothly forever.
✅ Step 7: Keep both branches perfectly symmetrical.

Now here’s what destroys marks:
