In risk, I find mastery 🥹😍🙌🏼

TDG has a tribe of incredible teachers and educators. Professionals who dare to dream, who reach towards the sky and inspire us every day with their innovative ideas.

Over the past few months we walk towards our preschool outdoor space with excitement, knowing the most epic creations will be awaiting us! A very unique skill from such a dedicated educator who spends his time deep in construction with children beside him supporting the next great creation. Loose parts often form the base with the most elaborate rope designs we have ever seen. There is height, their is speed, platforms move and the challenge asks us to just be brave and give it a go because exciting risk awaits us. This incredible educator works away in the most humblest of ways. But we see him creating more than just cool experiences, we see him cultivating confidence and capability in our children.

Here is just a glimpse into a handful of these epic creations 🧡✨🙌🏼

Long before words, children experience the language of light.

Here, even our youngest learners are immersed in thoughtful learning contexts where light invites curiosity, wonder and the joy of discovery.

Simple materials can create rich possibilities for exploration. For educators interested in creating similar invitations, we’ve used Perspex tissue box covers, rechargeable LED tealight candles, a rechargeable spotlight and a handful of old CDs to reflect, refract and transform light in playful and unexpected ways.

Sometimes, it doesn’t take many or expensive resources, just thoughtful ones.

Hidden Treasure ✨💎🏡

We believe that sustainability begins with the choices we make every day 🧡♻️

Instead of replacing our much-loved home corner furniture, we gave it a fresh new life with a coat of paint, beautiful gold door handles, and practical hooks for our spoons to call home.

We’ve also filled the space with real, everyday resources, encouraging children to explore, imagine, and learn through authentic play while reducing waste.

This transformation reflects our commitment to reusing, repurposing, and reloving items wherever possible. We want our children to see that with a little creativity and care, something old doesn’t have to become rubbish, it can become a treasure with a whole new purpose. 🌿

By modelling sustainable practices in our learning environments, we’re helping to inspire the next generation to value our planet and the resources we already have…Because every small change makes a big difference.

This year we made a conscious choice.

Instead of spending our time at a computer transforming educators’ handwritten observations into polished documents, we chose to honour what was already there, the authentic, thoughtful notes captured in the moment. These raw observations became the mid-term holistic summaries we shared with our families.

In making this decision, we gifted ourselves something even more valuable: time. Time to be present. Time to connect. Time to create meaningful moments with each child.

Our nursery children explored mark making with curiosity and freedom, celebrating the process over the product and expressing themselves in ways that were uniquely their own.

Our toddlers immersed themselves in a collaborative mixed-media canvas, layering watercolours, acrylic paint, black marker and flowing gold paint. Every mark tells a story of exploration, creativity and belonging.

Our preschool children carefully hand-drew envelopes to hold their learning, each one accompanied by a special artwork they had created themselves, a personal reflection of their journey this term.

For us, documentation is about more than recording learning. It’s about honouring children’s voices, educators’ professional reflections, and the relationships that sit at the heart of everything we do.

This approach reflects our commitment to being truly child-centred, respecting each child’s sense of belonging, honouring who they are today, and embracing the beauty of being fully present in this moment.

Before infants understand our words, they come to know our touch.

A gentle hand. A reassuring presence. A moment of connection.

Responsive, respectful touch is one of the first languages of care. It communicates safety, builds trust and reminds children that their needs will be noticed and responded to.

Research by developmental psychologist Tiffany Field has shown that positive, responsive touch supports children’s emotional wellbeing, strengthens relationships and contributes to healthy development.

Sometimes the most important work we do isn’t found in the experiences we prepare, but in the quiet moments where a child simply knows, I am safe. I am cared for.

Becoming with Intelligent and Unconventional Materials…Inquiry…Risk…Mastery

As we continue on our journey in 2026, this research focus of ‘Becoming’ invites us into a partnership with materials. Every encounter with the world around us leaves a mark, an impression, a new knowing. It is through these continual threads of exploration and knowing, that the child becomes. There is transformation, risk, ideas bouncing and changing, mastery, and growth. The evolution of identity lies in becoming. Term 2 saw our children illuminate their freedom and mastery cups, their desire for deeper inquiry, their growing skills and sense of self with whisper’s of risk! These beginning embers of transformation deserve to be nourished and provoked! And so our term 3 begins with a bang!

“i will explore the world, discovery my voice and tell you what i know in a hundred languages”

A new feature within our children’s shared hallway space has just opened today! The KnickKnack Shop! This intentional provocation consists of open ended, intelligent and unconventional trinkets and Knick knacks for our children to ‘shop’ and bring back within their studio environments or outdoors for a play! This offers our children a greater sense of ownership within their play as they drive their play urges forward with inquiry and awe!

Watch this space, already the potential of play is coming to life 🙌🏼

A sneak peak at one of the gorgeous toddler studios located at our new Early Childhood sister Centre opening in Chisholm! Clare Comedoy At TDG we take a supportive role in helping establish the home that will love and cherish many children and families at Chisholm.
