This year we made a conscious choice.
Instead of spending our time at a computer transforming educators’ handwritten observations into polished documents, we chose to honour what was already there, the authentic, thoughtful notes captured in the moment. These raw observations became the mid-term holistic summaries we shared with our families.
In making this decision, we gifted ourselves something even more valuable: time. Time to be present. Time to connect. Time to create meaningful moments with each child.
Our nursery children explored mark making with curiosity and freedom, celebrating the process over the product and expressing themselves in ways that were uniquely their own.
Our toddlers immersed themselves in a collaborative mixed-media canvas, layering watercolours, acrylic paint, black marker and flowing gold paint. Every mark tells a story of exploration, creativity and belonging.
Our preschool children carefully hand-drew envelopes to hold their learning, each one accompanied by a special artwork they had created themselves, a personal reflection of their journey this term.
For us, documentation is about more than recording learning. It’s about honouring children’s voices, educators’ professional reflections, and the relationships that sit at the heart of everything we do.
This approach reflects our commitment to being truly child-centred, respecting each child’s sense of belonging, honouring who they are today, and embracing the beauty of being fully present in this moment.
