YES YES YES - The Playbook of Persuasion

YES YES YES - The Playbook of Persuasion A persuasion framework about timing, presence, and how belief forms before words.

08/09/2026

For the next ten weeks, I’m going to share the Opening Scene from each chapter of YES YES YES.

Each chapter begins with a scene rather than a lesson. The idea is simple: persuasion is something we feel before we understand it.

Here’s where it begins.

OPENING SCENE 01

COMMANDING THE STAGE

The palazzo held a quiet that felt earned. Marble floors caught the low glow of the chandeliers. Masks drifted through softened light while music murmured along the edges of the hall. It was a black and white masquerade, a night built for discretion and for meetings that changed direction without warning.

She stood near the tall windows facing the dark water. Her mask was shaped with clean lines, a thin line of gold along its edge, chosen with care and no interest in apology. Light rested on it with ease. She held her posture with a calm that shaped the space around her, unhurried even as guests moved past.

Across the hall he sensed a change. Not a sound. Not a gesture. A rise beneath the music. His breath tightened before he understood why.

It hit him harder than it should have and he knew it. A spark held inside stillness. It reached him before he had words for it.

She did not turn towards him immediately. She let the moment lengthen. When her gaze lifted, a small, controlled movement, it landed with quiet certainty. It held him without force. She offered nothing beyond presence, and that choice drew the room towards her.

She stepped forward with deliberate pace. Each movement felt measured, as if following timing only she understood. He moved without planning to, answering the pace she kept.

A young waiter stepped into his line of sight.

“Excuse me, sir, would you like a drink?”

She leaned slightly as she offered the tray, cutting across his view. He reached for a glass to ease her discomfort.

Then it was over.

When he looked back, she had vanished into the movement of the hall. Hundreds of masks drifted in layered currents. He wondered if he had imagined it, a single glance stretched into something larger.

Then she stepped into view again.

From behind a small group of guests, she moved with composed intent. Her mask caught the light and kept it. She offered no gesture, only a steady look.

He walked towards her.

When they stood face-to-face, the masquerade gentled its pace. A subtle hush passed through the hall. Something unspoken formed in the space between them.

And the night leaned closer.

I didn't build this framework to explain persuasion.

I built it because I kept noticing the same five moments happening underneath every real decision, and nobody had named them yet.

Pulse. Build. Pause. Flow. Sustain.

Most people only notice the yes. These are the moments that made it possible.

Curious which one runs your decisions? Take the quiz: https://form.typeform.com/to/xca2OxGu

Can I borrow one memory from you?

Before you even chose it, your attention had already moved. Your mind searched. Connected. Clicked.

That's happening in every decision you make, usually too fast to notice.

I didn't create these moments. I just gave them names.

Save this. You'll start noticing it everywhere.

"Persuasion follows similar beats as seduction. It's about aligning with the right timing."

Most people focus on what to say. The bigger question is usually when to say it.

That's the whole idea behind YES YES YES.

Have you noticed this too?

The decision that changed everything.

Not the outcome. The room. The silence. The feeling in your stomach.

Watch, then sit with the question for a second.

A studio spends two hundred million dollars on a film. It opens to fifty million.

Someone else shoots a film in the woods for sixty thousand dollars. It makes two hundred and fifty million.

I wrote about this for FilmInk. The longer I sat with it, the less it felt like a film story and the more it felt like a persuasion story.

Audiences do not buy budgets. They buy genuine storytelling.

Blair Witch worked because it felt real. Get Out worked because it said something true. Neither had a big budget behind it. Both had belief behind them.

The same pattern shows up everywhere else. The pitch that gets funded isn't always the one with the better slides. The leader people follow isn't always the most credentialed person in the room. It's whoever felt true in that moment.

We've been trained to think persuasion is a resourcing problem. More budget, more data, more polish.

It isn't. People don't say yes to scale. They say yes to something that feels true.

That's the whole idea behind YES YES YES.

We rarely remember deciding. By the time it "clicks" the real work has already happened.

Curious where your last big decision actually started?

The biggest decisions in our lives often feel obvious when we look back.

I'm not sure they actually happened the way we remember them.

This is the first Reflection.

It's less a talk and more an invitation to notice something happening inside your own mind.

What decision immediately came to mind while watching this?

Nobody ever won a room by saying one more sentence than they needed to.

Confidence isn't volume. It's knowing exactly when you've said enough and having the discipline to stop there.

That discipline is rarer than the confidence itself.

3 minutes tells you whether you have it yet, or what's getting in the way. 👇

Silence gets a bad reputation.

Most people read it as resistance and rush to fix it. Usually it's just someone thinking. Working through the decision in real time.

Jump in too early and you interrupt the exact moment that was about to go your way.

Most people panic in that exact second without knowing why. The quiz tells you what you actually do. 👇
