🎤AGTV German Poetry Competition 2026 🎤

It's a big week for our Year 4, 5 and 6 students who participate in the Regional Final of the Association of German Teachers of Victoria (AGTV)'s German Poetry Competition 2026 on top of all the other activities.

Our Year 5 students were able to choose between two German poems:
🔹Das müde Krokodil
🔹 Die Kekse von Heike Henning

The 3-member jury saw some very impressive performances and assessed each recitation using the following three criteria:

🔹Pronunciation and Intonation
🔹Dictation and Phrasing
🔹Interpretation and Insight

For each criterion a maximum number of 10 points can be achieved.

While the Year 4 competition is held internally, the winners of the Year 5 and 6 Regional Finals will represent our school at the AGTV's Primary State Final on Saturday, 12 September at the Austrian Club in Heidelberg West.

Good luck to all students who participate in the ! 🍀
Viel Glück für den deutschen Gedichtswettbewerb der AGTV! 🍀

🔹Editor
🔹Art Director
🔹Designer

Science Week at DSM! 🔬✨

What happens to light when it meets different materials? Why do colours “dance” in milk? And how can a few Skittles create a beautiful rainbow? 🌈
Throughout the week, all of our classes took part in a variety of exciting science experiments and investigations, turning our classrooms into spaces full of curiosity, discovery and plenty of “Wow!” moments! 🔬✨
Our students became little scientists as they asked questions, made predictions, observed carefully, tested their ideas and shared their discoveries through hands-on learning.
The experiments featured in this post are just a small selection from our Prep and Year 6 classes, giving you a glimpse into the wonderful scientific exploration that took place across the school.

🥛🌈 Dancing Colours in Milk
With milk, food colouring and dish soap, the children created a colourful moving display and explored how the soap interacts with the fat in the milk.

🍬🌈 The Skittles Rainbow
With just Skittles, a plate and warm water, the children watched as the colours dissolved and spread to create a spectacular rainbow.

🔍 Exploring Light
The children investigated transparent, translucent and opaque materials and explored what happens to light when it meets different surfaces.

💧 Discovering Refraction
Using water glasses and everyday objects such as pencils and scissors, they observed how objects can appear different when viewed through or behind water, discovering the fascinating concept of light refraction.

We are incredibly proud of our young scientists and their enthusiasm for exploring, questioning and discovering the world around them! ❤️

Denn Wissenschaft beginnt mit einer einfachen Frage: „Was passiert, wenn …?“ 🔬💡

A huge Thank You to John Ambulance Victoria for teaching our students the importance of First Aid and what to do in the event of an emergency. 🚨

The knowledge and skills gained in their 'First Aid in Schools' Program develops First Aid awareness in young students and contributes to building a more resilient community. The program is age-appropriate and integrates with the Victoria Curriculum.

Through interactive games, Storytime and Action Plan scenarios, our students learn when and how to call 000, how to perform CPR, and much more! 🚑

Amazing work, everyone! 👏

Our Year 5 and 6 students have returned from an action-packed week in the beautiful Grampians, filled with adventure, challenge and plenty of opportunities to learn, grow and connect. 🏕

From canoeing and raft building to bushwalking, archery and hut building, students embraced a wide range of exciting activities. They tested their courage on the Leap of Faith, Giant Swing and Flying Fox, worked together through low ropes and the Vertical Playpen, and challenged themselves with the Crate Stack and other team-building activities. 🛶

Beyond the adventure, camp provided valuable opportunities for students to develop resilience, cooperation, problem-solving, independence and responsibility. Through shared meals, group reflection, free time and the many challenges they faced together, students strengthened friendships, built confidence and developed a greater sense of social connectedness. 🔦⛺

The camp also supported learning outcomes across Health and Physical Education and Resilience & Respectful Relationships, providing meaningful opportunities for students to put these skills into practice beyond the classroom.

A fantastic week of adventure, learning and memories that our students will no doubt be talking about for a long time to come! 🌟

Es war eine tolle Woche mit Euch, und nun sind wir froh, dass Ihr alle wieder wohlbehalten zu Hause angekommen seid! 💚
