Outstanding achievement for Levi!

During the first week of the school holidays, Year 8 student Levi proudly represented Finley High School at the All Schools NSW Championships in Long Jump and High Jump.

🥇 Gold – High Jump with an incredible jump of 1.72m!

5th Place – Long Jump with a jump of 5.42m!

An outstanding effort and a fantastic achievement, Levi!

Levi has now progressed to the All Schools National Championships in Perth in December. 🇦🇺

Congratulations, Levi! The Finley High School community is proud of you and wishes you all the best at Nationals!

Well, here’s our last Melbourne Royal 2026 post.
The carcase competition is the cornerstone of our school agriculture program and helps keep many of our other pursuits going.
So, here are our outstanding carcase competition results:
🏆 Bott Burston Trophy for Most Successful School or College Hoof and Hook Competitor
🏆 Melbourne Polytechnic Trophy for Highest School-Bred and Prepared Steer or Heifer Carcase
🏆 Champion Domestic Steer or Heifer Carcase, sired by 71 Limousins Tom, from FHS Nellie. Nellie has resided at Scott and Jen Isedale’s for a number of years. “Clove” scored an exceptional 91.45 points, the second-highest score in the competition.
FHS exhibited 16 steers, achieving an outstanding average score of 88.14 points.

Behind these results is an enormous amount of support, for which we are extremely thankful.
A huge thank you to our adult show helpers: Robyn, Mike, Ashleigh, Lindsey, Craig, Matt, Jeff and the many other parents who came to support us in Melbourne.
Our whole community has been blessed to have received the fruits of Mr and Mrs O’Leary’s service for so many years, and we are especially grateful to them as they conclude this chapter.
Thank you to our steer donors and supporters: Elders Finley, Nathan Everingham, Nutrien Finley, Tim Hayes, John Doyle, John and Tom Hawkins, Stu Cameron, Andrew and Kirstie Chesworth, Michael Tooke, Steve Chellew, Scott and Jen Isedale, and Ian Mason.

Melbourne Royal Stud week 2026 featured the BioWorma Youth Show. Judged by Kirk Stierwalt from the US, every student was able to learn much from his judging and comments during the heifer show on Friday and paraders on Saturday.
We were pleased to have Willow, led by Macy, receive the 5th place rosette in the heifer show.
Indie did an awesome job in the 14 years class to receive 5th place in the paraders competition.

Sunday was the Victorian finals for Junior parader and Junior Judging. We were proud to have Matilda, Abbey, Ava and Maggie all competing, and to have Maggie place 3rd.

Onto Stud Week at Melbourne Royal 2026. It has gone so quickly and is all a bit of a blur. Nevertheless, FHS achievements continue to pileup.
Shorthorn judging was on Thursday, followed by the Waterford Challenge.
🥇FHS Willow Heifer 6-10 months
🥈FHS Wistful Heifer 12-14 months and 🏆reserve champion heifer calf
🥇FHS Winner Heifer 14-16 mths and 🏆Champion Junior Heifer 14-16mths
🥈FHS Working girl Heifer 18-20mths
Pair females 2nd and 3rd
🥇FHS Verity Cow or Heifer 24-36mths
🥉FHS Ursula Cow over 36mths
🥇FHS Wide Load Bull 12-15mths

Our students organised two teams for the Waterford Challenge where teamwork and skills were assessed. They did a fine job to finish in 2nd and 3rd places.

Particular thanks to Lucy Lia and Josh Hudgson from J & L Livestock carriers who generously transported our stud cattle to and from Melbourne.

The Calf Classic at Melbourne Royal is always a highlight for our students. The dress up takes many weeks of planning.
Macy and Lucy also paraded our bull calves, X-Factor and Xtreme in their class.

Day 3 of FHS competition at Melbourne Royal had the students competing in the School and College Paraders Competition. We love to see the growth in the skills of our students which has come about from diligently practicing most classes or lunch times at school. From the beginners to the experienced, we are very proud of you all. Apologies to students we missed photographing during the busy day.
