Melbourne Polytechnic Animal Studies

Our students were very excited to help Farmer Darryl at the Melbourne Show this year! Here are some memories of a variety of animals!

The Animal studies Department is excited to announce a design competition for a multi-storey housing plan for the guinea pigs!
Our aim is to encourage more exercise and provide more physical enrichment for the Guinea pigs.

The guinea pigs love their food and sometimes a bit too much:) At the animal house we are encouraging the guinea pigs to move more with new enrichment such as cardboard cat scratchers( you can see they have jumped onto the cat scratchers to reach their feed). Feel free to post any ideas you think will get them moving!

The Guinea pigs from the Animal house have a new wire feeder( toy for them)! You can see they are very curious! I wonder what else they have planned over the break?

Here is an update on our Animal House Garden! Thanks to the Horticulture students, we have an array of new vegetables, fruit and herbs! Lately the mice have been enjoying slices of silverbeet, carrot and celery. I wonder what the guinea pigs and rabbits will fancy?

I wonder if Pepper likes health checks or wooden chewing blocks more?🐰

Here at the Animal house we are hoping to be more sustainable by growing our own greens for the rabbits, guinea pigs and mice. Thanks to the Horticulture students for planting a variety of lettuce, kale, carrots and herbs. Now they are ready to harvest!🐭🐹🐰
