Last term, Year 9 explored the vibrant Mexican tradition of Dรญa de los Mu***os (Day of the Dead) and studied the work of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo.

Students then created their own colourful Mexican-inspired masks, experimenting with pattern, symbolism and decorative details. ๐ŸŒบ๐Ÿ’€

The finished artworks are full of creativity, colour and individuality. Fantastic work, Year 9! ๐ŸŽจโœจ

Last week, our U15 boys and girls headed to Lismore Basketball Stadium to compete in the basketball knockout rounds.

Our boys faced some tough competition throughout the day. A highlight was a thrilling one-point win over Alstonville, sealed by Kobi with the final free throw! With five of our eight players having never played a competitive basketball game before, it was fantastic to see them take on feedback, develop new skills and keep giving their best.

Our girls also took to the court with plenty of courage and enthusiasm. With most of the team new to competitive basketball, they gained valuable game experience against Maclean and Casino High, building their confidence with every quarter.

Well done to both teams for having a go, learning along the way and representing Evans River with pride. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ€

We look forward to seeing our girls put their new skills into action at the upcoming 7/8 Basketball Challenge!

Our Year 7ACT Maths class has been busy designing teaching materials for each other!

Students created posters explaining divisibility rules, helping their classmates quickly work out the factors of large numbers.

A great way to combine mathematical thinking, creativity and learning from one another! ๐Ÿง โœ๏ธ

What a massive effort from our girls in the regional semi-final of the PSSA Touch KO today! It was a nail-biter against Tweed Heads, and despite a hard-fought battle, we narrowly went down 3-2.

Huge shoutout to our try scorer Summer, and to Shilah for that absolute cracker of an intercept! Tweed Heads put up some serious defense, making every metre hard-earned.

A massive thank you to Mackenzie and Lyla, for jumping in to ref at the last minuteโ€”legends! Also to our incredible parents who made the trek to Tweed to cheer the team on.

Onwards and upwards! ๐Ÿ‰๐Ÿ’ช

What a night of music, talent and emotion!

Our HSC Music students recently took to the stage for their Trial HSC Music Performance Night, performing to a large and enthusiastic audience in the Performance Hall.

The evening was a wonderful showcase of the dedication, perseverance and musical growth of our students. From powerful and expressive performances to impressive instrumental skills, each student demonstrated just how much hard work and commitment goes into preparing for the HSC.

It was fantastic to see our students step into the spotlight, share their music and confidently showcase the talents they have developed throughout their studies. Their performances reflected the many hours of practice, preparation and determination behind each piece. ๐ŸŽค๐ŸŽธ๐ŸŽน

Congratulations to all of our HSC Music students on a fantastic evening. Your hard work, resilience and passion for music certainly paid off! ๐Ÿ‘๐ŸŽถ

A huge thank you to everyone who came along to support our students and help make it such a memorable night.

On Thursday 13 August, our Year 7/8 netball team travelled to Lismore to compete in the Netball NSW Schools Cup.

The girls had a fantastic day, playing five games and showing great teamwork and determination. Highlights included a 17โ€“3 win over Lismore High School and a competitive match against Emmanuel Anglican College.

With a mix of experienced players and girls playing their first proper game of netball, it was great to see their confidence and skills grow throughout the day. ๐ŸŒŸ

A huge thank you to Phoebe and Nicky, who volunteered as mentor coaches and umpires. We greatly appreciate them giving their time to support the team. ๐Ÿ‘

Well done, girls! ๐Ÿ’™

Our Under 16s girls and boys recently represented Evans River at the Northern Rivers All Schools Touch Football Carnival at Hepburn Park, Goonellabah.

๐Ÿ’™ Boys
After a tough opening game, the boys bounced back with wins over Tweed River High and Byron Bay High to secure a place in the semi-finals. A narrow 4โ€“2 loss to Emmanuel Anglican College saw them finish an impressive 3rd overall. Special congratulations to Jai and Taj, our youngest players and standout performers on the day.

๐Ÿ’› Girls
With most of the team aged 14 or younger, the girls showed plenty of determination against older opposition. They secured a 1โ€“1 draw with Tweed River High and had two incredibly close one-try losses. A big thank you to Phoebe, Zoe and Sophie for leading and supporting our younger players throughout the carnival.

Both teams represented Evans River with pride, teamwork and excellent sportsmanship. Well done to everyone involved! ๐Ÿ‘

Our HSC Agriculture students are currently exploring the impact of agricultural practices on climate variability and examining emerging technologies that could shape the future of food production.

As part of their studies, students investigated alternative proteins, including mycoproteins such as Quornโ„ข, which is produced through fermentation using the fungus Fusarium venenatum.

Of course, what better way to investigate a food technology than to taste it! ๐ŸŒฎ Mrs McGeary prepared nachos using the alternative protein, giving students the opportunity to put their research to the test.

The verdict? A surprisingly tasty substitute and certainly worth considering as a meat alternative!

A great example of taking Agriculture from the classroom to the plate. ๐ŸŒพ
