Sculptures in the Garden, Mudgee Sculptures In The Garden will host its 16th annual exhibition 10th to the 25th of October 2026!

Sculptures In The Garden is an exciting event that combines garden design, Australian sculpture and traditional art mediums in beautiful rural surroundings within a private garden and vineyard in Mudgee. The inaugural Sculptures in the Garden event was held in October 2011 and attracted 130 sculptures and more than 1000 visitors over the weekend. The event now brings around 2000+ visitors to the r

egion and showcases more than 250 artist’s work. The objective for this event has always been to showcase sculpture as an artform, curate the work of some of the most interesting sculptors currently working in NSW, and engage the local community in the appreciation of – and education about – these works. When Former director of the Art Gallery of NSW and respected art scholar, Edmund Capon opened Sculptures in the Garden 2016 he expressed his view that “Sculptures in the Garden has made such a contribution to our appreciation of the art of sculpture. It is no longer the poor cousin in the story of Australian art, but a lively thriving centrepiece.”

Artistic Director Kay Norton-Knight's vision is to bring sculptures to the Mudgee region; to provide a venue for emerging artists to display and sell their work and network with other artists; and to develop public art for the benefit of the community and visitors to the Mudgee region. The SIG Committee is made up of seven local volunteers whose aim is to celebrate the work of Australian artists as well as raise money for local charity and art initiatives.

My Kingdom for a Horse will see artists, schools, families and visitors work together to create a growing herd of life-sized horses from sticks and natural materials.

But first, we need the sticks.

Join us for Pick Up Sticks at Rosby and help gather the materials that will bring the herd to life.

Each weekend of Sculptures in the Garden, meet a different exhibiting artist, watch them at work and discover more about their craft, materials and creative process.

Long-time SIG supporter Ian Marr returns on 17 & 18 October, demonstrating his beautiful hand-carved lettering in stone.

Ian has been painting, drawing and carving for nearly as long as he can remember. Working from his studios and farms at Braidwood and on the Darling River/Barka floodplain at Wilcannia, his work draws on our shared culture and language.

Mudgee visitors may already recognise some of Ian’s beautiful carving at the Lowe Wines cellar door.

Come along, watch Ian work and have a chat — artist demonstrations are part of the SIG weekend experience.

More than 280 sculptures and outdoor artworks by over 130 artists, transforming the gardens, vineyard and gallery at Rosby Wines & Gallery this October.

Come for the sculpture and stay for the day — with artist demonstrations, live music, food thanks to Mudgee Corner Store and Rosby Art, Wines & Guesthouse wine, SIG For Kids, workshops, hosted tours and our new community sculpture experience, My Kingdom for a Horse.

MEET BERT – OUR LEAD HORSE for My Kingdom for a Horse Community Sculpture Project.

Horses have long been part of the story of the Central West — woven into our agricultural history, rural landscapes and communities. In 2026, the Year of the Horse provides the perfect opportunity to celebrate that connection through a sculpture project built by the community.

Leading the herd is *Bert*, a celebrated horse sculpture by Australian sculptor Stephen King. With his strong, expressive form and unmistakably rural character, Bert will provide the inspiration and reference point for My Kingdom for a Horse.

Stephen will join us for the opening weekend of SIG, working alongside visitors as the first horses begin to emerge from steel armatures, branches, sticks and natural materials. From there, the herd will continue to grow across the 16 days of the exhibition — shaped by many hands and ultimately gifted back to communities throughout the Mid-Western Region.

COME BE PART OF SIG 2026
Every year, a brilliant team of volunteers helps bring Sculptures in the Garden to life — and this year we need a few more hands.

There are plenty of ways to get involved, whether you have a few hours, a day or would like to help throughout the exhibition.

You could help us install sculptures during installation week, welcome visitors and check tickets at the front gate, sell catalogues, assist artists, help visitors find their way around or lend a hand behind the scenes.

Our volunteers are often the first people visitors meet, and they play a huge part in creating the warm, welcoming experience SIG is known for.

It’s also a great way to meet people, spend time around some extraordinary art and be part of one of Mudgee’s much-loved community events.

Individuals, friends, community groups and local clubs are all welcome.
