Apologies for the break in updates!

I’m back working full time in the city (in my IT Architect alter ego) since May this year (mortgage to pay! 😊) so life has gotten even more busy.

The by-product is a scaling back of the school for a time to one weekend a month in Esperance, plus the occasional lesson or two somewhere near the metro area when I can.

The good news though is that I now have my CFI rating, thanks to the excellent guidance mentoring and ongoing support of Stewart Maddigan (Delta Recreational Flying Services), which gives me more flexibility to conduct my own flight tests, etc and helps with scheduling in my extremely busy life.

Cheers and fly safe!

A huge and productive week at Myrup last week (even though we had some dodgy weather 62mm rain one day!) - so many goals kicked:

Phil from Cue drove 1200Kms, stayed for the week, got 10 hours in and went solo - top effort mate.

Ben R1 achieved his first solo - congratulations Ben, a major milestone in any Pilot’s flying journey!

Henry, Sarah, Mason and Peter building on their solo hours and nearly ready for flight test, Mark almost ready for his GA-RA conversion flight test, and Ben R2 completed his minimum hours and now ready for flight test! Fantastic achievement guys, great to see you all progressing so well.

Jabiru 8267 also now back in the air after the 1000 hour top end engine overhaul, and performing fantastically!

Over 29 hours of flying in 6 days!

Had an excellent couple of weeks at Myrup, with the first week mainly focussed on the engine overhaul in the Jabiru. It’s progressing well, with no surprises inside the engine once it was dismantled, just the normal wear and tear expected of a 1000 hour engine.

The second week also included flight school, with lots of great flying achieved using the spare J160 (24-7382) which I’m grateful to have access to while 8267 is down…

Congratulations to Mason on achieving his first solo, Max on passing all his exams and completing his flying hours, setting him up ready for flight test, hopefully this week, weather and schedule permitting, and Dave for completing his passenger endorsement in his trusty Gazelle.

Another excellent couple of weeks of training, first in Albany with Silvie powering ahead in her pre-solo training, Andrew now ready for first solo, and Steve and Lloyd pretty much ready for their solo Navex’s.

Then it was off to Myrup with the trusty Jabiru on its last few hours before the scheduled 1000 top end engine overhaul, arriving at 997.0 then finishing off the last 3 hours, with Stewart bringing her to exactly 1000.0! Now the engine is in 1000 pieces, stripped down for the overhaul, and we’ve been using the local Jabiru J160 for training instead.

Then it was some excellent ongoing training with multiple students, and some great achievements - Ben’s first solo, and Jimmy’s successful navigation endorsement flight test - well done to both of you guys!

Just finished a brilliant block of training in Northam with Nathan, requiring very early starts due to the heat wave in the WA wheatbelt.

In just 11 days of training, Nathan went from never having flown a light aircraft before, to achieving his recreational pilot’s certificate (RPC), showing what can be done with singleminded determination and can-do attitude.

Congratulations Nathan, a fantastic achievement!

Another excellent week of flight training at Myrup in late January, even though it was occasionally interrupted by the local bushfires!

Congratulations to Sarah for attaining her first solo, and Peter for re-qualifying solo on the Jabiru after some time out of the saddle.

Jimmy is also cracking on with his navigation exercises and will soon be fully qualified with his cross country endorsement - keep up the good work mate!

Another excellent week of training in Albany last week, starting with an excellent fly-in at Bremer Bay on Saturday with nearly 30 aircraft attending, followed by a quick turn around trip back to Serpentine on Monday/Tuesday for a funeral, then finished off the week with a Navex with Lloyd S back from Albany to Northam on Friday…

Then off to Esperance on Sunday, and into flight school again down here, with some excitement today a bushfire only a few km’s north east of the Myrup airfield, complete with water bombers!

Another excellent block of flight training completed at Myrup, with around 20 hours in total over 5 days.

Congratulations to Max S for achieving his first solo! A great achievement in any pilot’s learning process.

Also great to see Jimmy K getting stuck into navigation training with two navex’s completed already…navigation training is when you really start to experience the freedom that flying provides…😊

Another excellent block of flight training in Albany from 26/11 - 5/12, with 22 hours of training completed amongst the normal south coast variable weather patterns…4 seasons in one day!

Congratulations to Lloyd S for achieving his recreational pilot’s certificate (RPC) today at Northam after completing his necessary 20 hours training in Albany last week. 😎

On to Esperance next week for the final block of training for 2024…

Another interesting happening this week - Hayden M’s BFR went really well, except that his J120 right main tyre went flat on the last circuit, which resulted in a nice long skid on the final landing - see Hayden’s description below…
