Taking a moment to relive the fun we had during Book Week at Smart Start in Term 3.

A huge thank you to our wonderful teachers for bringing so much enthusiasm and creativity to our Book Week celebrations. From France to Hawaii, we appreciate their efforts in dressing up and taking our School Readiness explorers on a world adventure.

Here is a sneak peek at three of the five craft responses to some of the many short-listed titles that we explored throughout the week.

Passports stamped, imaginations soaring and happy faces all around.

ENE-SPELL-01
Phonological component.
Providing an opportunity to segment single-syllable words into phonemes as a strategy for spelling.

At Smart Start Education, it is our priority to help students understand the alphabetic principle by connecting symbols (letters) to sound (phonemes) and blending these speech sounds together to read the whole word. The aim of the 'game' (literally through engaging, play - based activities) is to encourage sight recognition (without the need for stretching out the individual sounds) resulting in children reading the word instantly and effortlessly.

ENE-OLC-01
Communicates effectively by using interpersonal conventions and language with familiar peers and adults.

Naturally, as social beings, we learn through communicating with others. For some of our School Readiness students, this proves quite challenging. Our daily, structured sharing sessions offer our students an opportunity to actively engage in structured practise of speaking and listening in a secure environment prior to their first year of Primary School.

With teacher support and thoughtfully designed scaffolds, students are encouraged to participate. Allowing all children to select an object from home that aligns with the lesson objective fosters engagement and motivation.
