Alumni mentor makes a difference

The 2026 Principal’s Shield for Chess was held in the Sacred Heart Building on Friday, 8th May. Forty students from Years 7 to 12 participated in this prestigious tournament, consisting of seven rounds of matches.
St Monica’s College alumnus and Chess Coach Jake Vasilevski (Class of 2021) once again graciously volunteered to be the chief arbiter. Jake generously gave up his time to attend the competition and share his expertise with our participants.
We greatly appreciate Jake’s dedication to returning to SMC to assist and encourage our students. Jake’s passion for chess was evident, and participants were fortunate to have had the opportunity to gain experience from and be inspired by him.
