DAFFODIL DAY 🌼
Today, the Hillbrook community was proud to support Cancer Council Queensland's 40th Daffodil Day by helping bring a powerful LEGO daffodil installation to life in King George Square.
Representing the 450 Queenslanders diagnosed with cancer every day, each yellow flower serves as a symbol of hope, support and solidarity for those affected by cancer.
It was incredibly rewarding to see the installation come together, thanks to the time, care and dedication of our students and staff who volunteered to build the LEGO daffodils. Together, they helped create something truly meaningful that raises awareness and reminds those impacted by cancer that they are not alone.
A special thank you to Cancer Council Queensland for giving us the opportunity to be part of this important initiative!

CHAMPIONSHIP NETBALL 🏐
Our junior girls' netball teams took to the court at the All Schools Championship Netball Tournament, competing against a range of schools and strengthening their skills, teamwork and confidence along the way.
Although our senior team couldn't compete due to assessment commitments, students without exams stepped up as umpires and coaches, helping to create a strong sense of community and support throughout the day.
Well done to all our netballers for representing Hillbrook with enthusiasm and sportsmanship!

SENIOR SKI & SNOWBOARD TRIP ❄️
Our senior students made the most of the winter season with an action-packed Ski & Snowboard Trip during the holidays.
While the group arrived in Queenstown to find only a light covering of snow on the mountains, they embraced the challenge with enthusiasm and determination. As conditions improved throughout the week, students enjoyed their time on the slopes, developing their skiing and snowboarding skills and building confidence with every run.
Beyond the snow, students explored Queenstown's town centre, visited the historic village of Arrowtown, and enjoyed the thrill of a ride on the iconic Shotover Jet.
A huge thank you to the staff who generously gave up part of their holiday break to organise and facilitate this memorable experience for our students.

NBIS INDIGENOUS GAMES ❤️🖤💛
Earlier this term, Hillbrook proudly hosted the North Brisbane Interschool Sport (NBIS) Indigenous Games Festival, bringing together local schools to learn about and celebrate Indigenous culture through play and connection.
Refiti Tovi, proud descendant of the Turrbal People, opened the festival by delivering the Welcome to Country on behalf of the Turrbal People of Brisbane.
Students participated in Keentan and Buroinjin, two traditional Aboriginal games originating from across Queensland. Off the field, students explored weaving, learned traditional songs, and discovered the significance, history and stories behind ochre.
Thank you to all the staff and students who attended the NBIS Indigenous Games Festival at Hillbrook. It was a wonderful day of learning, cultural exchange and community, and we're already looking forward to next year!

BENTO BOX LUNCH 🍱
Our Year 7 students and those studying Japanese in Years 8–12 recently enjoyed a delicious cultural experience with traditional Japanese bento boxes.
Each box featured a variety of classic Japanese flavours, including sushi rolls, pork gyoza, and rice with a choice of karaage chicken, teriyaki chicken, spicy pork, or a vegetarian option of mung bean sprouts, spinach, and enoki mushrooms.
It was a fun and flavourful way to explore Japanese cuisine and connect with the culture through food!

ATHLETICS CARNIVAL 🏃
Our Athletics Carnival is always a highlight of the Hillbrook school year.
Students threw themselves into every event at this year's Athletics Carnival, from sprints and relays to discus, shot put, javelin, long jump and high jump. Whether competing for age champion honours or chasing a personal best, students embraced the challenge and gave it their all.
It wouldn't be a Hillbrook carnival without novelty events. Tug of war, nearest the pin, three-legged race and throw a welly brought plenty of laughter and friendly competition throughout the day.
This carnival's theme, 'Nostalgia', inspired some wonderfully creative costumes, with appearances from Toy Story aliens, My Little Pony characters, Ninja Turtles, Smurfs and more.
The winning House will be announced at an upcoming assembly. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making the day such a success!

SRC HANDOVER CEREMONY 🌿
At Hillbrook, we do leadership a little differently. Rather than appointing prefects or school captains, two students from each Home Class are democratically elected by their peers, teachers and staff to represent the student voice in school-wide decision-making.
Today, we held our Student Representative Council (SRC) Executive Handover Ceremony, thanking the 2025/2026 SRC Executive for their dedication and service, and warmly welcoming the 2026/2027 SRC Executive into their new leadership roles.
As a symbol of their leadership journey, each incoming Executive member was presented with a young bottlebrush tree. A tree cannot be instructed to grow; it must be nurtured, cared for and given time to flourish. In the same way, a strong school community grows through the care, commitment and leadership of those who serve it.
Congratulations to both the outgoing and incoming SRC Executives. Thank you for your contribution to the Hillbrook community - we are proud of all you have achieved and all that is still to come.
