A huge congratulations to Engadine High School alumnus Seth Holborow on an incredible achievement.

Seth recently won 1st Place in the Illawarra Regional WorldSkills Australia Welding Competition and has qualified for the 2027 WorldSkills Australia National Championships in Adelaide.

Anyone who knows Seth will know this result hasn't come by accident. It reflects years of hard work, commitment and a genuine passion for his trade. Alongside his apprenticeship, Seth has spent countless hours after work and on weekends developing his skills and taking on projects to improve his craft.

WorldSkills competitions attract some of the best emerging tradespeople from across the country, so to finish first in the region is an outstanding achievement.

We're also pleased to see Seth representing Wollongong TAFE and Gordon Fabrication, and acknowledge the support of his employer Mick, who recognised his potential and helped him continue to grow as a young tradesperson.

Everyone at Engadine High School is incredibly proud to see one of our former students achieving success in their chosen field. We wish Seth all the very best as he prepares to compete in Adelaide and can't wait to see what comes next.
Well done, Seth!

This week, our school proudly embraced National Reconciliation Week, an important time for all Australians to reflect on our shared history and commit to a more united future.

At our Junior Assembly, Mr Sculthorpe spoke about the importance of Country and encouraged students to learn more about Dharawal Country, the Country on which our school stands. He shared key messages about reconciliation, respect, understanding and the importance of building strong relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Throughout the week, students participated in meaningful learning experiences. During Library lessons, students explored Yorta Yorta and Dharawal languages and shared picture books celebrating First Nations cultures, stories and perspectives.

Our First Nations students and their buddies attended the Woronora River First Nations Student Council excursion at Tharawal Public School. Students took part in a variety of cultural and leadership activities led by Yindyamarra Walkabouts, providing valuable opportunities to connect, learn and celebrate culture together.

National Reconciliation Week is held annually from 27 May to 3 June. The 2026 theme, "All In", calls on all Australians to commit wholeheartedly to reconciliation every day and share the responsibility of creating meaningful change alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

As a school community, we are proud to continue learning, listening and walking together towards a more inclusive future.

🏉 Year 7/8 Touch Football Gala Day 🏉
Congratulations to our Year 7/8 Girls and Boys Touch Football teams who competed in the NSW Touch All Schools Gala Day today.

The boys finished 3rd, with 3 wins and 2 losses in a highly competitive division that included several specialist sports schools. It was fantastic to see the team come together, play with enthusiasm, and enjoy the experience. Narrowly missing out on progressing to the next round.

The girls also gave it their all. For many, this was their first time playing Touch Football together, and majority of the girls were relying on transferable skills from other sports. The girls improved with every game, showing determination and resilience throughout the day, and were rewarded with a well-deserved win in their final match.

While these days can be a test of resilience, the girls should be congratulated for stepping up, giving it a go, and representing the school with pride. This is just the beginning for our new Touch Football team!

A special thank you to the parents who assisted with transporting students, and to our senior student referees River, Charlie and Molly for their support throughout the day.

We now look ahead to the Year 9/10 Gala Day next week!

What an incredible effort from our school community during this year’s World’s Greatest Shave fundraiser! 💛

A huge thank you to everyone who donated, participated, volunteered, and supported the many events held throughout the campaign. From the shave/cut/colour day to the sausage sizzle, raffle, and the always entertaining “Soak the Teacher” water balloon event, the enthusiasm and generosity shown by our community was outstanding.

We would also like to acknowledge the amazing work of the WGS Committee, whose dedication and organisation helped make this year such a tremendous success.

Together, our school raised an extraordinary $60,000+ for the Leukaemia Foundation. An especially special congratulations goes to Heidi R-S, who raised an incredible $13,781 for cutting her hair — the highest individual fundraising amount in Australia!

We are also proud to announce that EHS ranked #18 in Australia and #5 in NSW for total funds raised.
Thank you again to everyone involved for making a real difference in the lives of Australian families impacted by blood cancer. What an achievement! 👏

We wish Indie and Charlotte the very best of luck with their outstanding artworks entered in the Aboriginal Children’s Advancement Society (ACAS) Visual Arts Competition for secondary students.

Indie, a proud Darkinjung woman, has entered three incredible pieces: Whale Dreaming, Together on Country – Dingoes, and Spotted Wobbegong. The whale holds deep spiritual significance for Indie’s people and is beautifully reflected throughout her work.

Charlotte, a proud Dharug woman, has entered her piece The Spirit of the Gum, which explores the enduring connection between Aboriginal culture and Country. Charlotte explains, “The Spirit of the gum has shaped Aboriginal culture — they are pillars of gifted resources, a constant reminder of the culture that I carry through my careful steps traversing Country.”

The competition will culminate in a prestigious three-week exhibition at our local Hazelhurst Arts Centre, with the Award Ceremony taking place during NAIDOC Week.

Congratulations, Indie and Charlotte, on your remarkable achievements, and best wishes for the competition!

Our Year 10 Visual Arts students have recently completed their Modern Art Painting assessment task, creating expressive artworks inspired by French Impressionism, Post-Impressionism and Fauvism. Students investigated the techniques, subject matter and artistic practices of influential modern artists before producing their own painted interpretation on canvas.

Our Year 8 Visual Arts students recently completed a papier-mâché sculpture task inspired by Australian artist Reg Mombassa, creating imaginative Australian animal sculptures filled with humour and personality. Some students also transformed and morphed Australian imagery and playful cultural references into quirky hybrid forms. Through experimentation with construction, painting, texture and pattern making, students developed creative artworks that celebrated Australian identity in unexpected and engaging ways.

Today our students participated in National Simultaneous Storytime as part of our Information Literacy Library program.

This year’s featured picture book was Luna Roo: The Kangaroo Baller, written by Adam Jackson and Adrian Lloyd, and illustrated by Jake Minton. The story celebrates important themes of courage, determination, and teamwork, and students were excited to hear the authors read the story live.

Our students thoroughly enjoyed the experience and have been completing an in-depth study of the book in class.

Organised annually by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA), National Simultaneous Storytime brings millions of children across Australia together to read the same book at the same time. The initiative promotes a love of reading and literacy in schools, libraries, early learning centres, and homes nationwide.

Well done to Banksia and Eucalypt classes for your wonderful participation!
