What is Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)?

Many veterans and first responders assume they need to start from scratch when pursuing civilian qualifications.

Often, that's not the case.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that allows your existing skills, knowledge and experience to be assessed against nationally recognised qualifications.

Years spent leading teams, managing risk, training others and operating in complex environments may already align with qualifications in areas such as:

• Leadership and Management
• Project Management
• WHS
• Emergency Management
• Security and Risk Management

RPL is not automatic. It is evidence-based and assessed against national competency standards. If your experience meets the required standard, you may be awarded a qualification or only need to complete gap training.

Your experience has value.

The first step is understanding how your service and experience align with civilian qualifications.
