The term blends is confusing and doesn't fit with the science of how we read the written word.

We must teach reading in the most effective way possible. Instruction that is explicit and limits confusion will go a long way to engage all.

We should be teaching children to blend sounds to read words.

It is hard to blend to read. Teaching letter-sound knowledge is key so children know how the alphabet code works.

All words are tricky to begin with!

We must set children up for success.
