To finish my conversation with Jeremy from ABC Capricornia radio, we talked about some of the signs that a mother may need extra support.

Often, it's not an obvious crisis. It's the quiet signs. Feeling overwhelmed, constantly anxious, disconnected, exhausted beyond tired, or simply not feeling like herself.

Motherhood was never meant to be done alone, and sometimes the most powerful thing we can do is check in and truly listen.

If this conversation has sparked something in you, and you'd like some additional support during your own postpartum journey, please reach out anytime. My inbox is always open. 🤍

You can also access support through organisations such as PANDA Australia, Beyond Blue, or the Gidget Foundation Australia.

"Is it common for new mothers to put themselves at the bottom of the priority list?"

The answer should be no.

But for so many new mums, it becomes the norm. We're told we can do it all. We're praised for pushing through exhaustion. We convince ourselves that everyone else's needs should come first.

But the truth is, you cannot pour from an empty cup.

Looking after yourself isn't selfish. It's essential. When mothers are supported to rest, recover, and prioritise their wellbeing, everyone benefits.

This support should be available to every new mother, especially those living in rural and regional communities. Let's keep this conversation going and hopefully this inquiry helps shine a light on the challenges postpartum families face and leads to the practical support that mothers so desperately need and deserve. 🤍

The more we talk about the realities of postpartum life, the harder they are to ignore. Join the conversation and help advocate for a future where every mother has access to the support she deserves. 🤍

"It takes a village" sounds great... but what happens when there is no village?

Jeremy from ABC Capricornia Radio asked me, "When you work with parents, what concerns do they raise about the supports available to them?"

I spoke about the isolation, overwhelm, and disappointment that can come from waiting months for mental health support, lactation assistance, and physical recovery services after birth.

Rural women often face additional barriers in the postpartum period, especially when their "village" consists only of themselves.

I can only speak from my own experiences and from what others have shared with me. Postpartum affects every woman and family differently. But rural parents deserve timely, accessible, and compassionate support during one of the biggest transitions of their lives. Hopefully this inquiry helps create meaningful change for families in our region. 🔥

What's one support you wish had been more accessible during your parenting journey? Share your thoughts in the comments below 👇💛

In this first clip from my conversation with Jeremy on ABC Capricornia Radio, we discuss the Senate Inquiry into pregnancy, perinatal and postnatal care, and why it's so important that regional mothers have their voices heard.

As most of you know, accessing support after having a baby can look very different outside the major cities.

Jeremy asked me:

"What experiences do regional mothers need to make sure politicians know about?"

I share some of the challenges many rural and regional families face, including limited access to services, long waiting lists, travel distances, out-of-pocket costs, and the digital divide that can make accessing support even harder.

If you feel comfortable sharing, what challenges did you face accessing pregnancy, birth, or postnatal support in your community? I'd love to hear your experience in the comments below. ⬇️
I can't wait to share the rest of this interview with you! Come back tomorrow for the next question.

My first birth taught me how exhausting it feels to fight your body.

My third birth showed me what becomes possible when you work with it.

The biggest difference wasn't my fitness, my pain tolerance, or even where I gave birth.

It was understanding how to use my breath.

Breath influences tension. Tension influences how we move through labour. When we learn to breathe intentionally, we can create more space, more flow, and a completely different birth experience.

That's why I'm so passionate about teaching birth breathwork.

If you're preparing for labour and birth and want practical tools to help you feel calmer, more connected, and more confident, my Breathwork for Labour & Birth Mini Course was created for you. 💛
