15/07/2023

It's been a long year since I last held a free session. Who wants to do an IELTS practice tomorrow? :)

THANK YOU TO MY 3 PM ESL GROUP FOR PARTICIPATING SO WELL TODAY β™₯ I had the pleasure to work with Daryl, Grace, George, and Mohammed :)

Our session focused on how to use the following compound relative pronouns:

Whoever = any person
Whatever = any thing (unlimited choices)
Wherever = any place
Whenever = any time
Whichever = any one from a limited set (or from SPECIFIC choices)
However = in any way

Adding -EVER to question words changes their meaning to:
"It doesn't matter how/what/which/when/where/who"

Credits to Engoo for the lesson material I used today. β™₯

My next ESL session will be on the 14/08/2022 at 5 pm AEST.

See you all next time!

And today's ESL Class wrapped up at 17:00 AEST.
I welcomed with me George from Greece and Muhamed from Libya. Thank you both for participating in class.

From our Introduction Activity today, the group has shared:

1. What can you do today that you weren't capable of last year?
George: I am home now. I was in the US last year and now I have come back to Greece for good.

2. Tips for ESL learners like yourself.
Muhamed: Listen. Of course there are other skills too but I think 60% of your learning should be how to listen.

Our topic today was a continuation of Banking from last session. We've shared different banking "cultures". Totally different from Greece/US, Australia, and Libya. Opening hours/Online or Internet Banking, etc. We have also done a roleplay about Opening a Savings Account.

See you all in the next session.
I will post another schedule here on my page so please keep an eye out. :)

We will be using ZOOM for the next class.

Today's class was our intro to "Banking".
I welcomed Buenafe, Grace, Nyl, and Mel with me in today's group.
HUGE SHOUTOUT to my beautiful friend, Megsy, who lent us her time today β™₯ Definitely made this session extra special.

Some of the questions we had in the session:

1. What do I need to open a Bank Account in Australia?
- Valid Photo ID: Passport / Driver's Licence (must have English translation) / A copy of your Visa / Depending on the bank you go to, you may also be asked for a Utility Bill to prove your Australian Address.

2. Is there a minimum balance you'll need to open an Australian Bank Account?
- It depends. Some do, some don't. (We are not going to mention the banks mentioned, haha)

3. Question from Thets (who's not with us in the session but sent her question via Skype): Would Australia allow a foreign citizen to have an Insurance Policy (Life or HMO)
HMO = Private Health insurance equivalent here in AU.

- YES. Definitely. There are health insurance companies who specialise in health care cover for non-resident visa holders. You buy the policy and you may also pay for an 'Excess' if you need to make a claim.

Our next class will be on the 11th of June, same time, via Microsoft Teams again. I will send an invite half an hour before the class so to ALL NEW AND RETURNING students, please message me HALF AN HOUR before the class starts, so I can give you the link to my class :)

SEE YOU ALL IN A FORTNIGHT. :)
