Recently, Elwood College students Aliyah, Nana, Joel and Henry travelled to the Parliament of Victoria to make a speech about how Artificial Intelligence is impacting their education. Hosted by the National Council of Women Victoria, the students heard from keynote speaker Dr Rumbi Nyanhoto who spoke about the power of leading with influence and participating in critical reflection.

Then Nana, Joel and Henry addressed the chamber eloquently, examining the challenges AI presents to students’ independent thinking while highlighting its potential to enhance and support learning.

Well done to all four Elwood College students, we are incredibly proud of you!

Today, the SRC hosted our World’s Greatest Shave event to raise money and awareness for the Leukaemia Foundation.
We had some several members of our school community step up to support this important cause:

💇‍♂️ Mason Brady (Year 11) and Arthur Paltos (Year 10) showed amazing support by having their heads shaved!

💇‍♀️ Leysha Singh and Haven Sidarta (Year 9) each cut off 20cm of their hair, which will be donated to be made into wigs for people experiencing hair loss due to cancer. ✂️

🧔‍♂️ Teachers Curtis Desjardins and Marc Favre took part as they both had their beards shaved off!

The SRC set an ambitious goal to beat our 2024 fundraising record of $2,200. We’re still tallying up all the money raised today, but we’ll be announcing the final total next week!

A huge thank you to everyone who participated, volunteered, donated, cheered from the sidelines and helped make today such a success. ❤️

The Leukaemia Foundation supports Australians facing blood cancer, and we’re so proud to have come together as a school community to support such an important cause. 🫶

National Champion!

Congratulations to Year 10 student Ali Rahmani, who recently competed at the 2026 National Wrestling Championships, winning both of his matches within the first two minutes to claim gold and the title of National Champion!

Following his outstanding performance, Ali was selected to represent Australia on the national wrestling team. He also attended a four-day high-performance training camp, learning alongside some of Australia and the world's leading wrestlers and coaches.

An incredible achievement and a fantastic milestone in Ali's wrestling journey. We are incredibly proud of his dedication, hard work and success!

Last week, Elwood College students represented Peru and the United Kingdom at the Model UN event at Dromana College. Students explored the topic of asylum seekers and refugees and used their negotiation and diplomacy skills to represent their country's positions. Well done to Maria (pictured), Eve, Spencer, Millie, Basil, Ada, Sasha and Noah for their hard work and a big thank you to Humanities teachers Ms Sestak and Mr Johnson for ensuring that the day could go ahead.

Last week, we farewelled our Japanese sister school, Obu Higashi High School, after a wonderful and action-packed week of excursions, learning and cultural experiences.

This year marks an incredible 41 years of friendship and connection between Obu Higashi High School and Elwood College.

During our student visit to Japan last year, students from both schools worked together to create a special 40th Anniversary Shibori to celebrate this longstanding partnership.

Obu Higashi Principal, Mr Miwa presented our Principal, Todd Asensio with the completed Shibori at our Term 3 Assembly last week. It will now take pride of place in our College reception, serving as a lasting reminder of the wonderful friendship shared between our two school communities.

A huge thank you to our Japanese visitors, students, our generous families who hosted students, and staff for helping us celebrate this special connection. We look forward to many more years of friendship!

World's Greatest Shave is coming to Elwood College!

On Friday 21 August, our school community will come together for the World's Greatest Shave to raise awareness and vital funds for the Leukaemia Foundation, supporting Australians living with blood cancer.

Students can get involved by wearing casual clothes on the day. Students who choose to come out of uniform must bring a gold coin donation, with all donations helping support this important cause.

In 2024, our incredible school community raised an amazing $2,200 made up of online donations from the community, gold coins from students, and the proceeds of our lunchtime bake sale.

Elwood College student published in The Age!

Congratulations to Year 12 English student Milly Reed who had her letter to the editor of The Age newspaper published in Saturday's paper!

Year 12 English students are currently studying a unit on persuasive language and analysing persuasive texts and it is great to see Milly's skills in this area recognised and published for all of Victoria to see - student voice in action!

Middle School Exam High Achievers!

This year, Elwood College introduced semester exams to our Middle School program. Our students took on the challenge and worked productively with staff to learn and practice study and revision routines to help them succeed in an exam setting. We thank all our students for approaching their exams with a positive intent and as an opportunity to consolidate the learning completed through Terms 1 and 2.

We are pleased to share and celebrate 8 students who achieved at least three results of A/A+ and no results below a B across their 7 Middle School subjects in Semester 1. Congratulations to Taihua Wang, Piper Rennie, Haven Sidarta, Ezra Angwin, Seungjun Lee, Isabella McLoughlin, Eian Galero and Jabali Okella (not pictured) who all achieved this impressive feat! These students have all demonstrated an exemplary approach to their learning through their application, dedication and participation throughout Semester 1 - we thank them all for setting a fantastic example for their peers.
