If interventions don’t seem to be working, it may be time to look deeper.
Dyslexia and Irlen Syndrome often overlap, which can make diagnosis difficult. Many individuals go through years of tutoring, reading intervention, or therapy with little progress because the underlying visual processing difficulties have not been identified.

A recent study indicates a significant overlap between Irlen Syndrome and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). In one study, approximately 50% of participants diagnosed with both Irlen Syndrome and ADHD no longer met the diagnostic criteria for an attention deficit disorder after beginning to use Irlen Spectral Filters. Addressing the underlying visual processing difficulties associated with Irlen Syndrome effectively resolved the attention-related symptoms previously attributed to ADHD, suggesting a potential pattern of misdiagnosis in cases where visual processing deficits are present (BarNir, Shaked, Elad, & Tosta, 2023).
Additionally, a separate study found that 64% of individuals diagnosed with ADHD reported visual sensory sensitivities, including discomfort with lighting, reading difficulties, atypical visual perceptions, and challenges processing visually complex environments (Wada, Hayashi, Seino, Ishii, Nawa, & Nishimaki, 2023). These findings underscore the importance of assessing visual processing factors when evaluating attentional and sensory regulation difficulties.

Brain injuries
✨ Light hurting your head after a brain injury? You’re not imagining it. ✨
After a concussion or traumatic brain injury (TBI), a lot of people are left dealing with frustrating symptoms that just don’t seem to go away…
😣 Bright lights suddenly feel unbearable
😵💫 Headaches or migraines come out of nowhere
🌫️ Concentration feels harder — like your brain’s stuck in fog
This happens because your brain can become extra sensitive to light after an injury. Everyday things like screens, overhead lighting or even sunlight can trigger symptoms.
👓 Here’s where Irlen lenses can help.
They’re not just coloured glasses — they’re custom tinted to calm the way your brain processes light.
Many people notice:
✅ Less light sensitivity
✅ Fewer migraines
✅ Sharper focus and clearer thinking
✅ More energy and less overwhelm
For some, the difference is noticeable as soon as they put them on.
You don’t have to just “push through” the pain or fog. There are ways to make daily life more comfortable again.
💬 If this sounds familiar, Irlen lenses might be worth looking into.
