This week is Speech Pathology Week!

We celebrate the valuable work of speech pathologists and the difference they make in the lives of students every day.

This year’s theme, ‘Communication Creates Possibility’, highlights the opportunities that communication creates to learn, connect, participate, belong and thrive.

At OLSH, we are grateful for the support of Peta, our CESL Speech Pathologist, who works alongside students, teachers and families to help students flourish in their learning journey.

Thank you, Peta, and thank you to all speech pathologists for the expertise, care and dedication you bring to supporting our children and young people every day!

Last week, our school participated in Bullying No Way Week, a national initiative that encourages students to build safe, respectful and inclusive communities. This year's theme, Small Acts, Big Impact, highlighted how everyday acts of kindness, inclusion and respect can make a real difference.

Throughout the week, our Mental Health and Wellbeing Leader, Mrs Webb, and our Health and PE Specialist, Mrs Hayes, led students in learning about bullying, its impact on others and the important role we all play in preventing it. Thank you!

Our Years 3-6 Learning Community participated in the Kids Helpline Biggest Bullying Lesson, where students explored what it means to be an upstander, not a bystander. They discussed ways they can support others, speak up when something isn't right and seek help from trusted adults when needed.

Students also created bracelets featuring messages of kindness, respect and inclusion, providing a tangible reminder that small actions can have a big impact on the people around us.

At OLSH, we know that creating a culture where everyone feels safe, valued and respected is an important and ongoing journey. Through learning opportunities such as these, we continue to work together to empower our students to be kind, courageous upstanders who help make our school a place where everyone belongs and is able to flourish.

This week at OLSH is all about celebrating the power of words and communication!

Book Week encourages a love of reading and imagination with a symphony of stories, while Speech Pathology Week highlights the important role speech pathologists play in supporting students to flourish.

We are grateful to our CESL Speech Pathologist, Peta, whose dedication and expertise continue to make a meaningful difference in the educational journeys of our students and their families.

We can't wait to see everyone at the Blurbs on Wednesday and dressed up for our Book Week Parade on Friday!
