CHILD SAFETY || NATIONAL REFORMS
Today marked the important implementation of 2 components of the national child safety reform for Early Childhood Education Centres.
• National Child Safety Training
This training is mandatory for all staff, students and volunteers and ensures the safety and wellbeing of every child is a shared national priority. It holds emphasis on promoting a child-safe culture, recognition and response to concerns, child safety obligations and safeguarding practices to reduce harm to children.
• National Early Childhood Worker Register
This register holds information of all teachers, educators, temp/agency staff, volunteers, students and non-educator staff such as chefs, admin staff, maintenance personnel and bus drivers.
This system will automatically check if a staff member is prohibited or suspended from providing care and allows the regulatory authority to monitor, identify and respond to risks more effectively.
These reforms operate alongside the existing National Model Code, which strengthens safe practice around the use of personal digital devices (phones, tablets, smartwatches, cameras and storage devices) along with the capture, use and secure storage of children’s images.
