One of the things we love about working with students is the way some of them think very literally. This can be especially true of some children who are autistic. Sometimes this can be challenging for the student and the teacher, but it’s also a very positive thing for those of us who teach, because it means that we have to extend ourselves out of our ‘one way of doing things’ and think creatively. Their literal interpretation forces us to look deeper and be more creative. It forces us to look from a different perspective. We had a little giggle at this example by one of our children this week who insisted that the instructions required her to draw a table.
