💙 Social Justice In Action 💙
This week a group of Holy Cross College students stepped beyond the classroom and into an experience that challenged, inspired and transformed their understanding of justice, service and human dignity.
Our Social Justice Immersion is built on the belief that some of the most powerful learning happens through encounter. Through hands-on volunteering, meaningful conversations and time spent alongside organisations supporting some of the most vulnerable members of our community, students were encouraged to see social justice not as an abstract concept, but as a lived reality.
Students volunteered with a range of community organisations and initiatives including Ozanam House, breakfast outreach services, Wheelchairs for Kids, Midland Meals and Uniting WA's Tranby Homelessness Hub.
They participated in presentations and workshops exploring homelessness and social justice, distributed care packages, prepared and served meals, engaged in prayer and reflection, and spent time journalling and discussing how they can become advocates for positive change.
The immersion challenged students to confront complex social issues including homelessness, poverty, disability, discrimination and mental health, while discovering the power of compassion, connection and active citizenship. It was an experience designed not only to deepen understanding, but to empower students to recognise their capacity to make a difference through service to others.
We are incredibly proud of the courage, empathy and maturity shown by our students throughout the immersion. Their willingness to listen, serve and reflect exemplifies the spirit of Saint Oscar Romero and our commitment to justice and service.
