At Nido Ellenbrook, science is more than a special event, it's a way of learning every day.

During National Science Week, our young scientists explored dinosaur museums through virtual excursions, investigated the wonders of nature outdoors, and mixed colourful potions as they measured, scooped, poured and experimented using tools such as pipettes, syringes and jugs.

As children predicted, tested and discovered, they were developing the skills of real scientists. We know that scientific inquiry begins in the earliest years, with children learning about the world through watching, touching, listening, exploring and asking questions. By nurturing this natural curiosity, we empower children to become confident learners, problem-solvers and innovators.

At Nido Ellenbrook, STEM is woven into everyday play, because every child deserves the opportunity to wonder, investigate and discover the world around them.

Our Cucina is waiting for you!

We are on the hunt for a wonderful cook to create nutritious meals for our children at Nido Early School in Ellenbrook.

Our cooks do not only create delicious meals, but are an essential member of the team who care for, nurture and support children's overall wellbeing. Through healthy, balanced meals and positive interactions, our cook helps children develop lifelong healthy eating habits, fosters a sense of belonging, and contributes to the warm and welcoming environment that makes Nido so special.

Working alongside our educators, you'll be part of children's daily experiences, celebrating cultural diversity through food, encouraging children's participation and curiosity around nutrition, and helping create meaningful moments that bring our community together.

If cooking is not your forte, but you know someone who would be perfect for the role, please share this opportunity with them.

What happens when the worms get too much food?

Our Kindergarten children have been very committed to nurturing their community worm farm. When they took their scraps down after morning tea this morning, they were surprised to find things growing inside! After a conversation about how worms can only digest a certain amount of food a week, we made some plans about how to fix the problem. “Get a bucket!”, “tip it all out?”, “we need gloves”, were some of the suggestions. After making plans, gathering our supplies and spending time fixing the farm, it is as good as new.

Sustainability is about learning to look after our planet and our environment, especially after humans have made a mistake. Well done on fixing the farm, Kindy!

Sometimes, the smallest acts of kindness leave the biggest impact.

Our team was completely bowled over by the generosity of one of our beautiful Nido Ellenbrook families, who surprised our educators with this incredibly thoughtful gift basket.

As educators, our greatest reward is seeing the children in our care grow, flourish and discover the world around them each day. Knowing we've played even a small part in their journey is what fills our hearts. But to be seen. To be recognised. To have someone take the time to say, "Thank you, we appreciate you"... that is a gift in itself.

We are so grateful to be part of such a supportive and caring community. It is a privilege to partner with families who value the relationships we build together for our children.

This morning, 9 of our oldest Kinder children enjoyed their very first excursion to The Pines Aged Care in Ellenbrook.

This visit was a wonderful way to celebrate the end of our inquiry in Classroom 5, “How The World Was”. Throughout this inquiry, the children have been exploring the past, learning about how life has changed over time, and discovering how important it is to share stories and experiences across generations.

During our visit, we spent time reading stories, playing games, dancing, singing and making music with the residents. Our children represented Nido beautifully, demonstrating fantastic listening skills, kindness and responsibility throughout the entire visit.

This may have only been our first excursion, but we are so excited to build an ongoing partnership between Nido and Aegis, creating many more opportunities for our children to learn from and enjoy each others company in the future 🌱

A heartfelt thank you to Jane from Intuitive Baby Massage for leading such a beautiful introductory infant massage session for our families and educators. It was a wonderful opportunity to learn practical ways to support connection, communication and wellbeing in the early years.

This special experience also served as a celebration of learning for our Nursery Room, where the babies have recently been exploring an inquiry into their senses. Through touch, sight, sound, taste and smell, infants begin to make sense of the world around them. Their senses are their first and most powerful tools for building relationships, discovering their environment and developing an understanding of themselves and others.

Infant massage provides another meaningful way to nurture these sensory experiences, strengthening bonds, supporting emotional wellbeing and creating moments of connection between babies and their caregivers.

What better way to learn about animals than to see and touch them in real life?

To conclude our Toddler inquiry, "What Lives There?", we welcomed WA Wildlife for a special visit. Over the past few weeks, the children have been exploring animals and their habitats through stories, discussions, play, and investigation. Meeting some amazing native animals up close brought their learning to life in a meaningful and memorable way.

The children were captivated as they observed, touched, and learned about the unique features of each animal and the environments they call home. Experiences like these spark curiosity, deepen understanding, and create lasting connections with the world around us.

What animal do you think your child was most excited to meet?
