🦎 Our Educators Became Wildlife Rescuers Today! 🌿

Today, our educators had a very special visitor outside the centre — a little blue-tongue lizard who was desperately searching for some shade, food and water. ☀️🦎
Our educators carefully and safely rescued our scaly friend, giving him some much-needed water and food before safely releasing him back into the nearby bushland. 🌿💧

The children were so curious and excited to see our little visitor! They gathered around to observe and discuss where blue-tongue lizards live, what they like to eat, and how we can care for and respect our local wildlife.

This naturally led to some wonderful conversations about animals and pets they have at home, with the children sharing stories about their furry, feathered and scaly friends. 🐶🐱🐰🐠

It was a beautiful spontaneous learning experience, encouraging the children’s curiosity, language, knowledge of the natural world and understanding of how we can show kindness to animals. 💚

We think our educators might just need to add wildlife rescuers to their list of talents! 🦎👩‍🚒🌿

🦷🪥 Big smilies today 😁
We had a very special visit from the dentist today. Our children were so brave, confident and eager to have their teeth checked.
The children learnt about the importance of brushing their teeth twice daily to keep the nasty germs away.
We were so proud to see how beautifully the children sat while having their teeth checked and cleaned.
A huge well done to all out little superstars. We have already secured our visit for next year, i will keep you posted closer to the date.

A conversation can challenge the way we think. It can raise something we hadn't noticed. It can help us understand a different perspective.

But what happens next matters.

What can we change?
What support is needed?
Who needs to be involved?
What can we do differently?

This is where conversation becomes action.

And you don't need to have all the answers to start. Sometimes the most important thing you can say is:
“I'm not sure. Can we talk about it?”

Because a child-safe culture isn't built through one conversation. It's built through the conversations we keep having, and the action we take because of them.

Child safety conversations don't always look the way we expect.

Sometimes they're started by a question. Sometimes a change in behaviour. Sometimes it's an educator noticing that something feels different.

Our job is to notice, listen and make space for those conversations.

"Community" means something different when you're four years old.
It's not a big word. It's a friendly wave. A favourite librarian. A walk to the local park. The excitement of choosing a dinosaur book to take home.

These moments may seem small, but they're how children begin to understand where they belong.

By connecting with the people and places around us, children build confidence, curiosity and lasting relationships with the communities they call home. That's why community connections are such an important part of life at Sparrow. 💛

There’s a lot that happens at Sparrow that you don’t always see, and safeguarding is a big part of that.

It’s the quiet observations. The check ins between educators. The careful documentation. The conversations that happen behind the scenes to make sure every child is safe, supported and heard.

It’s constant, intentional and always centred on children.
