🖐 Sensory exploration 🖐

Providing opportunities for children to actively use their senses as they explore the world through “sensory play” is crucial to brain development. Sensory activities facilitate exploration and naturally encourage children to use scientific process where they play, create, investigate and explore.

Sorting objects, matching shapes, colours and then pictures helps build visual perception and thinking skills. Children can generally sort into colours before they can identify the name of the colours. Learning to categorise and classify helps memory skills

Inquiry-based STEM education in the early years is a collaborative process, which encourages children to raise questions and explore their interests. We’ve had lots of fun this week exploring cause effect, magnetic wands, ice/salt colours and Oobleck (cornflour and water)

Following the children’s interest this week, dinosaurs were explored.
Various learning opportunities were placed around both the indoor /outdoor environment. After watching various videos on YouTube - the children engaged in some salt dough fossil and bone creating - ready for their Dino digging in the sand pit with their tools.

The ocean, home to some of our most glorious animals is under threat from climate change, pollution, and fishing.

With World Oceans Day, I set up some simple learning experiences to introduce the children to the topic of ocean conservation and how important the ocean is to life on earth.

Through different learning experiences, we have explored the animals that live in the oceans, we have been reading a variety of ocean themed books and looking at all kinds of ocean animals and their habitat 🐳 🐙
