WATTLESEED SLICE FOR WATTLE DAY πŸ’›πŸŒΏ
πŸŒΏπŸ’› Celebrating Wattle Day at OOSH! πŸ’›πŸŒΏ

Today we’re celebrating Wattle Day with a delicious homemade Wattleseed Slice, made right here by our wonderful OOSH team!

Wattleseed is a unique Australian native ingredient with a delicious nutty, coffee-like flavour, making it a perfect addition to our baking. The children enjoyed learning about wattleseed and discovering another wonderful ingredient that comes from our Australian landscape.

Of course, the best part was getting to enjoy the finished slice together! A delicious way to celebrate Wattle Day and appreciate some of the incredible native foods Australia has to offer. πŸ’›πŸŒΏ

🚨 Preparing for Emergencies: From Plans to Practice 🚨
This week, two members of our OOSH leadership team attended the NSW Department of Education’s From Plans to Practice Emergency Preparedness Workshop in Lake Macquarie.

The workshop brought together OOSH and early learning professionals with representatives from NSW Police, SES, Ausgrid and RFS, providing a valuable opportunity to learn directly from emergency management agencies and strengthen our understanding of how to prepare for, respond to and recover from a range of emergency situations.

While we hope we never need to put these plans into action, being prepared is an important part of our responsibility to the children in our care.

Our leadership team are continuing to build their knowledge and strengthen our emergency procedures so that we can respond calmly, confidently and effectively when it matters most.

🧑 Our priority is always the safety and wellbeing of our children, our team and our families. Training such as this helps ensure we are prepared, informed and ready to act in the best interests of our OOSH community.

A big thank you to the NSW Department of Education and all of the emergency services involved for providing such a valuable opportunity to strengthen emergency preparedness across the education and care sector!

πŸ›Ήβœ¨ Friday Fun: Skateboarding & a Special Surprise! βœ¨πŸ›΄

What a way to finish the week! Our Friday incursion was all about skateboarding, fun and learning new skills πŸ›ΉπŸ™Œ

But the excitement didn’t stop there… we had a very special surprise! 🀩

Our very own staff member Barney showed us what he can do on a scooter β€” and WOW, what a performance! πŸ›΄πŸ”₯

Did you know Barney is ranked #1 in Australia πŸ‡¦πŸ‡Ί and #6 in the world 🌎 for scootering?! πŸ€―πŸ‘

The children were amazed watching Barney showcase his incredible skills, tricks and confidence. It was such a fantastic opportunity to see a world-class athlete right here in our own team!

A huge thank you to Barney for putting on an incredible show and inspiring us to get out there, have a go and keep practising! πŸ’ͺπŸ›΄

What an epic Friday!
Skateboarding is on the next 3 Friday's, see you there πŸ‘

Today we proudly celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children's Day. This is a day to honour the strength, resilience, culture, and voices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children.

At our OOSH service, we recognise the importance of creating a safe, inclusive, and culturally respectful environment where every child feels valued, connected, and celebrated. Today, our children will be exploring First Nations cultures through meaningful activities, storytelling, cooking, and conversations that encourage respect, understanding, and appreciation.

We acknowledge that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children are connected to the world's oldest continuing cultures, and we celebrate the richness they bring to our communities every day.

We are committed to walking together in the spirit of reconciliation by fostering kindness, respect, and a genuine appreciation for Australia's First Nations peoples.

🌿✨ Monday Messy Play – Fluffy Slime in the Forest! ✨🌿

What better way to start the week than with a little messy fun in nature? Today the children headed into our forest area to make their own fluffy slime! πŸŒ³πŸ’šβœ¨

Following a recipe is so much more than just mixing ingredients together. As the children measured, poured, stirred and observed the changes, they were developing a range of important skills including:
πŸ§ͺ Following step-by-step instructions
πŸ₯„ Measuring and early maths concepts
πŸ‘€ Listening and concentrating
🀝 Teamwork and communication
πŸ’ Problem-solving and predicting outcomes
πŸ’ͺ Fine motor skills through pouring, mixing and kneading

Messy play also encourages creativity, curiosity and confidence. It gives children the freedom to explore different textures, experiment with cause and effect, and engage their senses in a fun, hands-on way. Being outdoors added another layer of adventure, allowing the children to connect with nature while enjoying the freedom to create without worrying about making a mess!

There were plenty of smiles, giggles and SLIME as everyone proudly took home their fluffy creations. πŸ’š
