We came to Sydney for the MKA Nationals with two fighter and came away with 3 FIRST PLACES.
Nic had a one match and convincingly won that in the first round after waiting nervously most of the day.
Ivy, after starting the day off going to support Nic, ended up winning the Non-Contact, winning her Full Contact one match and taking out the Most Spirited Fighter award after stepping up at the last minute to fight an older heavier opponent.

We go ok in our small dojo.
We done girls. 👏👏👏👏👏

After initially having a full contact fight, then not having a full contact fight, we entered Ivy in the non-contact.
After many pep talks covering, “I don’t know how to do this” “what are the rules?” “It doesn’t make sense !”Ivy went out and became the MKA National no hitting Champion.

BTW, in the meantime, we have organised Ivy a fight after lunch against a heavier, older opponent.
Let’s hope that goes just as well. 🤞

IMPORTANT NOTICE

OSU EVERYONE

As you all know, running any event comes with a large task of balancing a financial budget.

After running two Budo Challenges and a World Cup in the space of 13 months, our not-for-profit financial well is unfortunately running a bit dry this year.

Each year our dojo and its sponsors contribute at least $10,000 towards running this prestigious event. We also rely on our much loved volunteers base - some of whom are now pursuing their own dreams and adventures. We are eternally grateful for their support since we held our first Budo Challenge in 2016.

Over the many years, we made big commitments to Kyokushin and the martial arts fraternity. In the most difficult of circumstances, we have honoured those commitments made prior to our son, Vinnie passing away.

With that in mind and acknowledging that it is time to concentrate on fully healing our family, friends and dojo family,
We have made the difficult decision
TO CANCEL THE 2026 GOLD COAST BUDO CHALLENGE.

This decision has not been made lightly. We have already booked the event for 2027 and hope that from that date we can ensure its return on at least a bi annual basis.

Of course if there is anyone willing to take up the baton for this year’s event it would be with our full support.

Thank you for your understanding and ongoing support.

Best wishes and OSU !

Last weekend, our dojo had the honour of being invited to a memorial training session for Kancho Nagayama of Seiyushin Karate.
Sadly, he passed away suddenly, and unbelievably it was two years ago. Several members of our dojo went along and trained heartily to commemorate his passing and support the wonderful karate community that he had built.
These beautiful people were unfortunately left without direction or cohesion, but with true spirit, they have pushed on to become a strong family and dojo once more.
We are here to help in any way we can.

What an honour and a privilege it was to be invited by Her Excellency the Governor of Queensland - the Honourable Dr Jeanette Young AC PMS AC PSM, Professor Graeme Nimmo RFD and the Consul General Japan Brisbane Ishikawa to attend Government House for a Reception in support of the
50 year anniversary of the Basic Treaty of Friendship and Co-operation between Australia and Japan. We had a wonderful time representing Kyokushin, the IKOKU and our dojo. Thank you for having us. We look forward to supporting the strong and fabulous relationship between Australia and Japan for many years to come 🩵

We tested the mettle of our younger dojo members with a Junior Grading.
Watching them all get red faced and sweaty giving everything their little bodies have to offer warms the soul.
Congratulations on those new belts and colours you little champions.
👏👏👏

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of one our instructors.
We were very fortunate to inherit Sensei Kathy Nunn when the family moved north from Mt Gambier to the Gold Coast.
She was a yoga, Pilates and Win Hoff instructor and loved to mix up our training with aspects from these varying disciplines. Much loved by our dojo, she will be sorely missed. 💔
She shared that her dream was to complete her Yondan grading in Japan at the next World Tournament in 2027.
In recent times she had been struggling with the debilitating MND, and lost her battle just this week.
RIP beautiful soul. 🙏💔💔

Had some fun at training last night… both at a disadvantage, then pretend it’s the last 20 seconds of the fight …. Although the last part may have gotten lost in the laughter. All in all, some Kumite and some fun. Osu!
