ππ₯Ύ Into the Night We Go! π₯Ύπ
This weekend, our Kokoda Challenge hikers tackled a major milestone in their preparation journey β their first night hike!
As twilight settled in, the teams donned their high-vis vests, switched on their headlamps, and set off through Daisy Hillβs Don & Christine Burnett Conservation Park for a challenging 25km trek.
Why train at night? The 48km Kokoda Challenge begins at 10am, and many teams spend more than 12 hours on the course. With the event held in winter, hiking after sunset is almost guaranteed, making safe and confident night navigation an essential skill.
Weβre proud to report that every hiker rose to the challenge, completing the 25km course in approximately six hours. Their resilience, teamwork, determination, and positive attitudes were on full display throughout the evening.
But the hikers werenβt the only ones training! Our incredible support crews also experienced their first taste of event-day responsibilities. Stationed at the halfway checkpoint, they welcomed teams with encouragement and a warm meal to help refuel tired bodies before the second half of the journey.
A huge thank you to our support crews for keeping our hikers moving and motivated. Your role is just as important as the kilometres being walked!
With every training session, we move one step closer to the Kokoda Challenge and the finish line. Weβre almost ready.
Go Rhinos! π¦π
