Harmony Week - 16 to 22 March, 2026

Harmony Week is the celebration that recognises our diversity and brings together Australians from all different backgrounds. It’s about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone.

This year, we connected with Harmony Week with the quote "we all smile in the same language".
Learning the importance of a simple smile. You never know what someone is going through, their story, their past, their present. A simple smile may be the highlight of their day. It shows care, empathy, compassion and kindness.

This story shows the power and gift of a smile. "When I Smile" is a heartwarterly book about how smiles can spread kindness. It's about noticing small things that bring joy and sharing that happiness with others. Perfect for little ones learning about empathy and connection.

Holi - 4th March, 2026

𝘊𝘦𝘭𝘦𝘣𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘔𝘶𝘭𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘶𝘭𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘮 𝘪𝘯 𝘊𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘦.

Holi is a vibrant Hindu festival of colors, love, and spring, celebrating the triumph of good over evil. Celebrated over two days in March (March 3-4, 2026), it involves lighting bonfires (Holika Dahan) and, on the main day, throwing colored powders and water, symbolizing joy, renewed relationships, and the arrival of spring.

Today we connected with Holi with colour matching, story time and chalk painting.

Spring is here, and it's almost time for Holi, the Indian Festival of Colours. Siblings Mintoo and Chintoo are busy gathering flowers to make into colourful powders to toss during the festival.

🌈 Chalk Painting:-
Educators and children interpret celebrations in their own ways, celebrating colour. Following the Holi traditional colours, we implenented these into our art today. Each colour carries a meaning. Red symbolizes love and fertility; yellow is the color of turmeric, a powder native to India and used as a natural remedy; blue represents the Hindu God Krishna; and green is for new beginnings. Children were offered chalk paint to create their own colour explosions!

World Wildlife Day - Tue, 3 Mar 2026

World Wildlife Day (WWD), is a day is to draw attention to the conservation status of some of the most critically endangered species of wild fauna and flora, and to drive discussions towards imagining and implementing solutions to conserve them. According to data from the International Union for Conservation of Nature Red List of Threatened Species, over 8,400 species of wild fauna and flora are critically endangered, while close to 30,000 more are understood to be endangered or vulnerable; threatened with extinction. Continued loss of species, habitats and ecosystems also threatens all life on Earth, including us. People everywhere rely on wildlife and biodiversity-based resources to meet all our needs, from food, to fuel, medicines, housing, and clothing. Millions of people also rely on nature as the source of their livelihoods and economic opportunities.

Today we connected with this event with a wild animal theme.

Painting with water offers a unique and engaging learning experience that combines art, science, and creativity!

Purple Poppy Day - February 24th, 2026

"𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗮𝗹𝘀𝗼 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲𝗱"

Recognising the deeds and sacrifices of our war animals serving alongside our troops with their own day of remembrance. A day for honouring the courage, loyalty, and sacrifice of animals—horses, dogs, pigeons, and donkeys—that have served alongside military personnel in war and conflict. Also known as National War Animal Day, it commemorates the millions of animals that have served and passed in service.

The Purple Poppy represents rememberance of our war animals, recognising the extraordinary loyalty and courage of all animals who serve alongside our military in times of war and peace.
These often unsung heroes have earned a place in the hearts of all Australians, and a special day to remember them... "They also served"

National Bird Day, January 5, 2026 🐦

National Bird Day is a dedicated observance that highlights the beauty, intelligence, and ecological importance of birds while advocating for their protection.
The day is to focus on both celebrating wild birds and addressing the welfare of captive birds housed in inadequate environments.
National Bird Day also emphasises the importance of conservation for native birds whose populations are declining due to habitat loss, climate change, and pollution.

Today, we connected with National Bird Day, with a bird play table and exploring a birds nest.

🐦 Exploring a nest:-
Children were offered a real nest to explore. What's in it? Nests really are a work of art, with many different natural items embedded together; sticks, leaves, animal hair, small feathers, mulch.
▪️Observation and inquiry: Noting the nest's structure, materials, and potential inhabitants.
▪️Ecological awareness: Understanding bird habitats and ecosystems.
▪️Scientific thinking: Asking questions about the nest's purpose, construction, and occupants.

Today we connected with upcoming New Years with Fireworks.

🎉 'The Quiet Little Firework' by Nicola Coppack story time:-
Joining the littlest of fireworks on a journey of self-discovery through the night. A story that highlights its OK to be different; learning that each of us has our own special way to sparkle.
Educational elements: Teaches valuable lessons about being yourself.

Fireworks in a Jar Science 🎉

Can you believe it's New Years Eve!! Where did that year go!?!

Today we connected with new years with a fireworks science experiment; Fireworks in a Jar.

What's happening?
It's to do with the density of each liquid. The food colouring will dissolve into the water, but the oil won't. By mixing the oil and food colouring together first, you slow the mixing process that would normally happen with the water and the food colouring. The food colouring drops down into the water (because it is denser than the oil) while the oil stays on top of the water (water is also denser than oil). When the food colouring eventually starts to mix with the water, it creates a tiny explosion, like a firework.

Firework Smash!

Getting into our festive New Years spirit with a bit of messy explosive 'firework' fun!

A simple yet effective toddler activity allowing children to express their creativity through art. Children show an interest; as they become more curious about what's happening, watching as the paint responds to their movements. A great activity to enhance the hand-eye coordination, building arm strength, concentration, acuracy and focus.

▪️Building fine motor skills, as children manipulate the hammer, developing hand-eye coordination and dexterity.
▪️Coordination and accuracy; lining up the hammer, learning through cause and effect, trial and error.
▪️Problem solving: experimenting with hitting it fast, slow, soft, and hard; was the outcome the same or different?
▪️Engaging in visual-spatial skills and visual tracking, developing spacial awareness.
