C.S. Lewis, the British author and literary scholar, once said, 'We read to know that we are not alone.'

Looking around the Echuca PS amphitheatre this morning, there were so many picture storybook characters to fill your heart with glee and your mind with wonder. Reading takes us on adventures, lifts us into new realms, and helps us to understand the world in which we live.

It was a Symphony of Stories, and we loved every ounce of the performance!

You won't believe it, but Woody stepped out of the toybox to join us for this year's Book Week celebrations at Echuca PS! He even brought Slinky Dog and the Little Green Army Men.

W***y Wonka added some sweetness, the Lorax kept a close eye on everyone, and Wally? Well, we never managed to find him! The crayons decided to work for one more day, Dorothy followed the Yellowbrick Road all the way to the amphitheatre, and Harry Potter flew in on his broomstick. Miss Powell made a tremendous Hairy Maclary; how lucky to still have a Mum willing to make your costume!

Rhiannon, our librarian, came dressed as the Very Hungry Caterpillar and gave away $25 Collins Bookstore gift vouchers to one lucky reader in each grade. Congratulations to the winners!

Finally, a big round of applause to everyone for making today bright, whimsical, and fun! Commiserations to anyone whose costume is somewhere between Temu and Narnia!

Pop this date on the calendar and grab pizzas from Jarrod and Bridget at Domino's for dinner! $1 from every pizza sold will go to 208's Steane Family to support them and Hannah as she receives ongoing treatment in Melbourne. 💙🤍❤️

Tomorrow’s 11/12 years District Athletics is postponed due to inclement weather. It has been rescheduled for Thursday, 27th August. The 9/10 event is on Wednesday. 🤞

The Grade 4 team recently completed their novel study of Little Lion: A Long Way Home by Saroo Brierley.

Those familiar with this remarkable story will understand that Saroo's tale sparked heartfelt, honest conversations among the students as they tried to connect with and empathise with his story. Texts like these help broaden our students' experiences of the world and foster an appreciation for the privileges we are afforded as citizens of an advanced economy.

Most importantly, Saroo's story teaches the importance of belonging and how the power of hope can help us be our most resilient selves in the toughest of times.

Now, our Grade 4 literary enthusiasts have turned their reading minds to the Australian classic Storm Boy, written by Colin Thiele. Oh, Mr Percival! 🤍

We are fortunate at Echuca PS to have an ever-expanding collection of novels and graphic novels for our students to read, listen to, discuss, and respond to. We've just received a new order (approximately 60 copies) and are wondering if any parents are available to cover. If so, please contact the Office or pop into school and catch up with Mrs T.
