Malcolm in 6D has recently entered the 2026 Steinway Australian National Youth Piano Competition.

The competition has two components:

1) A selection panel chooses 12 finalists from across Australia to perform live in the final round in Melbourne on 17 October, and we are very excited that Malcolm has been selected as one of the 12 finalists.

2) A public voting component - Malcolm is also in the running for 'The People’s Favourite Award'.

Let's show Malcolm our support and vote for him.

Watch Malcolm Lin perform Mendolssohn: Songs without words Op.38 No.3 in the 2026 Steinway Youth Piano Competition. Vote for this entry.

Another fantastic day of fun, adventure and teamwork at camp! 🏕️

We have been particularly impressed by the way students are working together and supporting one another. They’ve encouraged their friends to face their fears and step outside their comfort zones, offered words of encouragement when things have felt challenging, and shown a wonderful willingness to give everything a go.

A highlight of the day was our trip to the sand dunes and Jimmy’s Beach. Students had a fantastic time exploring the dunes, and some even braved the cooler water temperatures for a splash around at the beach! 🌊

After another very full day, everyone is now tucked up safely in bed and, unsurprisingly, some are already fast asleep! We’re looking forward to one final day of camp adventures tomorrow before heading home. 😊

Please keep an eye on SchoolBytes tomorrow for updates on our expected arrival time back at school.

What an action-packed first day we’ve had at camp! 🏕️

Students have jumped straight into the adventure and are thoroughly enjoying putting their You Can Do It! skills into action. We’ve seen plenty of persistence and growing confidence on the giant swing, high ropes and flying fox, as well as some fantastic resilience and teamwork during the raft-building challenge.

Everyone is working well together and showing excellent Getting Along skills. We’re also putting our Organisation skills to the test by attempting to keep our rooms tidy! 😄

We finished off the day with a boogie on the dance floor at the disco, and everyone is now safely tucked away in bed, resting up and ready for another big day of adventures tomorrow! 🌙

Last Friday, our Eastwood Public School community came together to celebrate our wonderful dads and father figures. A huge thank you to everyone who helped make this event possible.

Students also proudly wore their favourite sporting jerseys for Jersey Day. Jersey Day is inspired by the incredible gift of life that Nathan Gremmo gave to six people when he became an organ donor at just 13 years old. The day is about starting important conversations and raising awareness about organ and tissue donation, and encouraging people to consider registering as organ and tissue donors.

Thank you to everyone for getting involved and helping make it a meaningful day for our school community.

In English this term, 6G engaged in our unit on ‘Fake News’. In this unit, students are learning to identify news sources that have authority and will provide them with the correct information to help them develop informed opinions. They will apply these skills to plan, draft, revise and publish factual news articles, before using creative language techniques to produce their own fabricated news stories for the purpose of comparison and contrast. We started by
writing persuasive paragraphs on whether humans should prioritise space exploration or focus on solving issues on Earth with the students given the option of being for or against. Needless to say there were some strong arguments being put forward!

This morning, the Eastwood Golds travelled to Middle Harbour Public School to compete in the Regional Finals of the Premier’s Debating Challenge. The topic for the debate was, ‘That Year 5 and 6 students should have to help out in their community for two hours a week as homework’, with the Golds arguing for the affirmative.

Once again, our talented debaters delivered an outstanding performance and were victorious, securing their place among the final 16 schools remaining in the Regional Finals. This is an incredible achievement and a testament to the girls’ hard work.

We look forward to finding out who our next opponents will be!
