Congratulations to Year 10 student Sienna, who successfully interviewed for a School-Based Nursing Traineeship with Hunter New England Local Health District at John Hunter Hospital!

This is a wonderful achievement and an exciting opportunity for Sienna to gain valuable experience, develop practical skills and begin her career pathway in healthcare while completing school.

We are incredibly proud of Sienna and wish her every success as she begins this exciting journey!👏

This week, we proudly recognise and celebrate the incredible School Administrative and Support Staff (SASS) who make such an important contribution to Maitland High School every day.

A heartfelt thank you to our office administration team, Student Support Officer, Aboriginal Education Officer, General Assistant, Site Manager, mainstream and SSU School Learning Support Officers, and our kitchen and laboratory assistants.

Your professionalism, care, dedication and behind-the-scenes work help keep our school running smoothly and ensure our students and staff feel supported. We are incredibly grateful for everything you do for the Maitland High School community.

Did you know that students going into Yr 11 & 12 in 2027 can enrol to complete a Vocational Educational Training course whilst still at school?
There are many pathways to achieving your dream career and a VET pathway is one of them.

All of the below careers can be studied at a local TAFE or UNE campus or online. These courses are FREE for school students and can be studied in lieu of another subject. Students completing these courses can, at the end of Year 12, achieve a HSC as well as an additional qualification e.g. Cert III Allied Health Assistant.

A VET course can increase employment opportunities and provide a direct pathway to university.

VET (TAFE & UNE) courses are OPEN NOW and close on 11/9/26. If you require further information about any of these courses, contact the Careers Department.

Our Alumni - Whitney Stace - Class of 2023

"I am a proud Maitland High School alumna, Class of 2023, and I am now entering my third year of service as a Medic in the Royal Australian Navy.

Looking back, my time at Maitland High School played an important role in helping me become the person I am today. The support and encouragement I received from my teachers helped me build the confidence to pursue a career that, at the time, felt like a huge step into the unknown. In particular, my maths teacher, Mr Battese, had a significant impact on me. His encouragement and belief in my abilities helped me develop confidence in myself, not only academically but also in believing that I was capable of achieving the goals I set for my future.

Since graduating in 2023, I have gone on to successfully complete my Diploma of Nursing and become an Enrolled Nurse, as well as completing my military medic training. I now have the privilege of serving as a Royal Australian Navy Medic, combining my passion for healthcare with a career in Defence.

The past three years have challenged me, pushed me outside my comfort zone and allowed me to grow both personally and professionally. From leaving high school and beginning my Navy career to completing my nursing qualification and medic training, I am incredibly proud of how far I have come.

I will always be grateful for the teachers at Maitland High School who supported me during those important years. Sometimes, having a teacher who believes in you and encourages you to back yourself can have an impact that extends far beyond the classroom. For me, that confidence helped give me the courage to pursue the career I wanted, and today I am proud to be serving my country while doing a job that allows me to care for others".

🖤💛❤️ Celebrating Culture, Community and Connection at MHS 🖤💛❤️

NAIDOC Week at Maitland High School was a proud celebration of Aboriginal culture, identity and community.

On Wednesday, Jidah from Waagan Galga joined members of our Aboriginal Dance Group to present traditional Aboriginal dances to the whole school. Jidah shared the stories and cultural meaning behind each dance, creating a powerful and meaningful experience for students and staff. We were incredibly proud of our dancers and the respectful engagement shown by the entire school community.

In the lead-up to NAIDOC Week, our Aboriginal students also visited local primary schools and preschools to deliver cultural workshops. It was wonderful to see our students proudly sharing their knowledge, culture and stories with younger members of our community.

Throughout the year, our students have participated in a range of cultural camps and events, strengthening their connection to culture, community and Country.

We are proud to celebrate the strength, knowledge and leadership of our Aboriginal students and the important contribution they make to our school and wider community.
