We are a family friendly club that teaches it's students in a non threatening environment.

The IKO Group Australia headed by Shihan Theodore Tsanidis 8th Dan was formed in 1972 as an organisation teaching Goju-Ryu Karate to both males and females of all ages. Since inception, the IKO Group Australia has been affiliated with the IKO Group Japan and has taught hundreds of students traditional and authentic Budo (Japanese martial arts) as passed down through the centuries. Black Belt Training Complete 🥋🇦🇺
A powerful and inspiring black belt training session for IKO Goju-Ryu Karate Australia, led by Hanshi Theodore Tsanidis, 9th Dan.
Our black belts demonstrated strong spirit, focus, discipline, and determination as they performed advanced combinations, drills, and technical training under Hanshi’s guidance.
These sessions are a reminder that the black belt journey is not the end, but the beginning of deeper learning, greater responsibility, and continued growth in the true spirit of Goju-Ryu Karate-Do.
Well done to all who trained with dedication and respect. Keep pushing forward with humility, strength, and perseverance.

In honour of our IKO Gojuryu Karate Australia family, we share the heartfelt thoughts of Hussein Sensei on what karate life truly means to him.
For Hussein Sensei, karate is not just a sport, a class, or a set of techniques. It is a way of life. It is discipline, respect, patience, humility, strength, and continuous self-improvement. Karate has shaped his mind, body, and spirit, teaching him that true strength comes not only from physical ability, but from character, perseverance, and the courage to keep moving forward.
Through every training session, every challenge, and every lesson, Hussein Sensei carries the values of Gojuryu Karate with pride. His journey reflects dedication, loyalty, and a deep love for the art. Karate has become part of who he is, guiding him in life both inside and outside the dojo.
We are proud to honour Hussein Sensei and his contribution to our IKO Gojuryu Karate Australia community. His passion, commitment, and spirit continue to inspire students and fellow karateka to train hard, respect the path, and live the true meaning of karate-do.
Karate is life. Karate is family. Karate is the journey of becoming better every day.

Cerine’s journey in Karate is a true reflection of what IKO Goju Ryu Karate-Do Australia stands for—dedication, resilience, and growth.

From her very first steps on the dojo floor, Cerine has shown determination and a willingness to learn. Like many, her journey hasn’t always been easy—but it’s through those challenges that she has grown stronger, both physically and mentally.

Karate has become more than just training for Cerine—it’s a path of self-discovery, confidence, and discipline. Watching her continue to push past her limits and evolve is something we are incredibly proud of.

Her journey reminds us all that progress is built one step at a time.

“How proud are you of your students?”
It’s a question I’m often asked. And the answer is simple—immensely proud.
Proud not just of their achievements in karate, but of the discipline, respect, and perseverance they show every day. Proud of the way they carry themselves both inside and outside the dojo. Proud of the effort they give, even when no one is watching.
Karate is more than technique—it is character. And seeing that character grow in each student is the greatest reward of all.

A beautiful display of control and precision at our IKO Goju Ryu Karate-Do Dojo 👊🥋
Cyrine and Saada performed the Seipai Kata in a slow version, highlighting every detail, breath, and movement with exceptional focus and discipline. This kind of training truly reflects the essence of Goju Ryu—balance, strength, and mindfulness.
Outstanding effort from both of you—keep embodying the spirit of karate! ✨
