Today we celebrate Indigenous Literacy Day and the rich stories, cultures and languages of First Nations peoples.

This year’s theme, ‘Country is Our Teacher’, reminds us that there is so much for children to learn through connection to Country, culture, stories and the world around them.

Indigenous Literacy Day (ILD) is a national celebration of First Nations peoples’ stories, cultures and languages created by the The Indigenous Literacy Foundation.

🌼💛 Happy National Wattle Day! 💚🌼

Today we celebrate Australia’s beautiful national floral emblem the golden wattle. Wattle is such a wonderful way for children to connect with nature and learn about the Australian environment. 🌿🌼

Today is National Wattle Day, and it is so lovely to see the beautiful yellow flowers in full bloom across Noongar boodja!🌼

Did you know that there are more than 1000 species of wattle? All but around 17 of them are native to Australia.

Wattle days have been celebrated for different reasons over the last century, and in 1988 the Golden Wattle was made Australia’s national floral emblem. Wattles hold deep cultural significance for Indigenous Australians and have many traditional uses, such as food, medicine, tools, decoration and as a seasonal indicator.

A study analysing ancient campfires in Australia’s Western Desert has found wattle has had a cultural use spanning 50,000 years. Learn more here:

Before nominations closed on 2 July 2026, we were very excited to learn that Nature Alliance had been nominated for Service of the Year in the Family Day Care Australia's Excellence in Family Day Care Awards!

Our submission has been sent off and now that our official nomination certificate has arrived, we thought it was the perfect time to share the news.

We have already been so proud to celebrate the wonderful Nature Alliance Educators who received nominations this year and it feels incredibly special knowing that our Service has also been recognised.

This nomination isn't just about the Service, it reflects the people who make Nature Alliance what it is - our dedicated Edcuators, our staff team who work alongside and support them, and the relationships we have built with our children and families!

To have Educators, staff members and our Service all recognised through nominations this year is something we are genuinely proud of.

Now we wait! The next announcements are expected towards the end of September. Regardless of the outcome, we are very grateful to have been nominated and recognised amongst the many wonderful people and services that make Family Day Care so special!
