Steve Guerdat keeping me in the money in our little betting pool of friends with a fabulous clear round in the first round of the individual final! He leads by less than a rail ahead of Italian Piergeorgio bucvi and Colombian Roberto Turan Tafur after joint leader overnight Daniel Duesser had a rail and has dropped to 4th!!!
There's been much surprise and upset at the showjumping individual final this afternoon at Aachen! Not only did German superstar Richard Vogel and United Touch S stop at the wall, but Ben Maher and Point Break stopped at the delicate wavy plank after having to encourage him at the open water just before it. Both have been left out of the top 12 to go into the final round.
It reminds us that we are all human, and horses are horses, no matter how much we hype them up. Both riders did a superb job to nurse their horses around to finish the course with kindness and professionalism, with the crowd ooohing and aaahhing all the way!!! 🙏❤️
