Quick question: if you had to pick just TWO values that matter most to you, could you do it?

It’s harder than it sounds! But once you know your two, so much becomes clearer: why some days drain you, why certain people rub you up the wrong way, and what to say yes (and no) to.

This month’s blog is all about values at work, with real-life examples from farms, factories, schools and leadership teams, plus a few simple ways to put your values to work straight away.

The last few Mondays: it’s not a mindset problem, it’s a capacity problem → here’s what low capacity actually costs you.

Today: how to build it back. 🔋

Not another wellbeing day.

Here’s what actually works:
→ 90 seconds of recovery between tasks beats a yearly retreat
→ Saying “I’m fried” out loud does more than thinking it
→ Fewer decisions, not more willpower
→ Predictability — your nervous system relaxes when it knows what’s next

None of this is about trying harder.
It’s about giving your nervous system what it needs to come back online.

That’s the whole point of Meet Your Inner Reptile — understand your survival system, work with it instead of against it.

Save this for your next low-capacity day.

Comment “CAPACITY” if you want to go deeper with your team.

Regulation before resilience.

You can’t lead well — or hold a hard conversation well — from a frazzled nervous system.

So that’s where I start.

Practical nervous-system tools for leaders, principals and teams. Useable in 30 seconds, in the middle of a real moment.
Not therapy.
Not theory.
Just steady, practical capability.

Let’s bring a steadier week to your team. Real change. No fluff.

Psychosocial safety isn’t a policy in a folder.

It’s something your staff feel — in how a leader responds when someone’s struggling, in the corridor conversations, in whether people feel met or missed.

You can write the policy. But safety is built (or broken) in the everyday moments.

That’s what I build skill around with school leaders: recognising stress before it becomes distress, having psychologically safer conversations, and supporting overwhelmed staff without trying to carry everyone.

Not therapy training. Not compliance. Practical leadership capability for steadier, safer schools.

If that’s what your team needs this year, let’s talk.

For school leaders in Australia👇

If your staff are carrying a heavy load this term, you’re not alone — and it’s not personality. It’s capacity.

I’m Lou — an educator of 20+ years, a facilitator and somatic coach — and I help schools build steadier, safer staffrooms through practical, customised workshops on the things that quietly wear people down:
➡️ stress
➡️ overwhelm
➡️ overload
➡️ unrealistic expectations
➡️ psychosocial safety
➡️ and the conversations no one feels quite equipped for.

Swipe through to see what I bring to your team 👉

🔹 Leading Stressed Staff
🔹 The Invisible Load in Education
🔹 E-DISC profiling for teams
🔹 1:1 leadership coaching

Delivered as a staff-meeting session, a pupil-free day, or a half/full-day workshop — always built to your brief, never off the shelf.

Last term I sat with a group of school leaders who were holding a lot.

Stressed staff.
Hard conversations.
Their own tanks running low — while still showing up every day for everyone else.

That’s the work I do.
I’m an educator of 20+ years, a facilitator and somatic coach, and I help school leaders and their teams with the things that quietly wear people down: stress, capacity, psychosocial safety, and the conversations no one feels quite equipped for.

Recently that’s looked like working with the leadership team at Cobram Secondary College, speaking at Women of the Murray’s Inspire to Lead on the invisible load we all carry, delivering a workshop to a real estate team in Wangaratta and a digital media team in Geelong, just to name a few.

The principle underneath it all: regulation before resilience. You can’t lead well, or hold space well, from a frazzled nervous system — so that’s where we start. Practical, grounded, built for your school.

If your staff are carrying a heavy load this term, I’d love to help lighten it.

Psychosocial safety isn’t just a policy document.
It’s understanding how the people in the room actually operate.

Here’s a lens I don’t think gets talked about enough: E-DISC isn’t just a communication tool. It’s a psychosocial safety tool.

Think about it —

🔸 Communication style — get it wrong, repeatedly, and it becomes a chronic source of friction and stress

🔸 Decision-making style — mismatched expectations here quietly erode trust

🔸 Values — when they’re not understood, people feel unseen

🔸 Strengths + stretches — naming these openly turns judgement into compassion

When a team understands each other through this lens, assumption turns into curiosity. Friction turns into conversation. People feel safe to speak up, disagree, and be who they actually are.

That’s not a nice-to-have. That’s the foundation of a genuinely safe, high-performing workplace.

📩 Want this lens in your workplace? DM me & let’s chat.

The cost of low capacity isn’t on your spreadsheet.

It shows up here instead:
→ The mistake that slips through
→ The near-miss nobody reports
→ The good hire who quietly leaves
→ The meeting where everyone nods and nothing gets said

None of that gets labelled “capacity.” It gets labelled a performance problem, a culture problem, a turnover problem — when really, it’s a nervous system running on empty.

Fill the tank first. Everything else gets easier.

Save this for your next team meeting.

Which one is showing up for you right now?

Ever had one of those days where nothing actually happened, but you're completely wrung out by dinner time? 🙋‍♀️

Often it's because our energy has gone to things we can't control: the email that didn't explain anything, the weather wrecking the week's plans, the decision made somewhere above our heads.

This month's blog unpacks the Circle of Control, one of my favourite tools and one I use in almost every coaching session and workshop. It's full of real-life examples from farms, factories, schools and leadership teams, plus simple ways to start using it straight away.
