***ROCKETS and ROBOTS***

A huge thank you to Museums Victoria’s Museum in a Van for an incredible and engaging educational visit with our 4-Year-Old Kindergarten children! Through hands-on astronaut training, rocket mission preparation, Mars rover exploration, science demonstrations, and even the opportunity to see a real meteorite, children discovered how astronauts travel to and live in space while building their problem-solving, coding, and teamwork skills. What an exciting morning of learning, wonder, and discovery!

🧸PYJAMA WEEK🧸

Next week is Pyjama week! From the 20-24th July we will be hosting Pyjama Week!

The Pyjama Foundation raise much-needed awareness and funds for children in foster care.
Foster children often face instability, moving between homes and schools, which disrupts their education and hampers their ability to thrive. Without support, these children risk falling behind in school, developing mental health issues, facing future unemployment, and making poor life choices.

Your donation to our fundraiser will help change that.

By contributing, you will help The Pyjama Foundation recruit, screen, train, and match a "Pyjama Angel" mentor with a child in care. These mentors read books, play educational games, assist with homework, and more. Most importantly, they empower foster kids with learning, life skills, and confidence.

This Pyjama Week, our team will be wearing our PJs to raise funds for these children. You can make a huge impact by donating today. Every contribution counts!

We are asking that all families bring a gold coin donation, or donate through our fundraising page with the following link:
https://fundraise.thepyjamafoundation.com/fundraisers/goodstartdrouin
Please note- every donation over $2 is tax deductible

Thank you for supporting our Pyjama Day fundraiser and making a difference in the lives of foster kids

The research is clear 📚 reading aloud is one of the most powerful things we can do for our children.

When we read with a child, we’re doing far more than sharing a story. We’re building the foundations for language, confidence, curiosity and a lifelong love of learning.

Decades of research shows that children who are read to regularly:

💛 Build stronger language skills
Hearing rich varied language in books exposes children to far more words than everyday conversation alone. This growing vocabulary helps them understand, communicate and make sense of the world.

💛 Develop early literacy skills long before they learn to read
Through stories, children learn how books work – that print carries meaning, that pages turn left to right, and that stories have a beginning, middle and end. These early understandings make learning to read feel familiar and exciting.

💛 Strengthen phonological awareness
Rhymes, rhythms and playful sounds help children hear the building blocks of language.

💛 Grow their comprehension and thinking skills
Talking together about a story, predicting what might happen, wondering how a character feels, and connecting events to real life helps children develop memory, problem-solving, and higher-order thinking.

💛 Experience connection, comfort and joy
Shared reading fosters calmness, closeness, and moments of joint attention. These warm interactions support a child's sense of security and belonging.

Most importantly, children who experience positive, engaging reading moments from a young age are more likely to develop a genuine love of books - something that matters even more than early literacy skills alone.

Reading is simple, joyful, and sets children up for success in school and life.

Next week we will celebrating NAIDOC Week through the service. This years theme is 50 Years Deadly. For five decades, NAIDOC Week has celebrated the voices of our communities — steady, unapologetic, and proud. Each year, its themes have called for truth, celebrated culture, honoured resistance, and reminded the nation of who we are.

Fifty Years of Deadly marks a milestone. It’s a tribute to the people who built this movement. the Elders who stood firm, the organisers who made space, the artists who turned resistance into expression, and the communities who keep showing up, year after year.
