Senior School students and staff members recently enjoyed a fantastic pirate-themed social organised by the Senate.

The night was filled with plenty of fun, including dancing, a live DJ, Mario Kart, popcorn machine, soft drinks and much more! There was also plenty of pirate spirit on display, with Mia Grecko taking out the best dressed award!

A huge thank you to Mr Bhargava and the members of the Senate for all their hard work to organise such a memorable evening. Ahoy, what a night!

We are very excited to announce that Steve Messer's Strange Country will be performing one big 40th anniversary celebration concert, with special guest performers, in The Balfour on Saturday 10 October.

Tickets are available from trybooking.com/DPHUD for $15 each (or $45 for a 4-ticket deal).

Celebrating 40 years since the two Steves (Messer & Camp) first performed together and giving thanks to God for everyone who has been part of the Strange Country journey since, both on stage and behind the scenes.

Steve Messer's Strange Country cooks the flavours of country, blues and gospel into a musical stew! Their songs are rich in stories about life's joys and struggles, hard times, high hopes and the triumph of faith.

This week’s featured teacher is RAELENE PRICE, who shares a Year 2 class at Drouin East with Kerrie Jackson. Raelene started at Chairo in 2025, initially teaching Art from Prep to Year 4.

WHAT FIVE WORDS COULD YOU USE TO DESCRIBE YOURSELF? Outgoing, friendly, determined, lifelong learner and creative.

WHAT QUALIFICATIONS DO YOU HAVE? I have a Bachelor of Education, Bachelor of Teaching Primary, Bachelor of Exercise Sports Science and Graduate Certificate in Clinical Exercise Rehabilitation.

WHAT’S SOMETHING THAT NOT A LOT OF PEOPLE MIGHT KNOW ABOUT YOU? I live on Phillip Island and travel to work at Drouin East.

WHAT DO YOU ENJOY DOING ON WEEKENDS OR IN OTHER SPARE TIME? I love keeping active with HIIT and Body Pump classes, catching up with friends over a good coffee or brewed chai, shopping for clothes and escaping on camping adventures with my husband in our little JPod.

WHAT WAS YOUR MOST MEMORABLE HOLIDAY? The most memorable holiday that I've ever had was a trip to Hamilton Island with family and friends in 2025. Exploring the island in buggies, soaking up the sunshine by the pool and sailing across the turquoise waters of the Whitsundays made every moment special.

It was my first time visiting a tropical island and I was amazed by its natural beauty. The combination of spectacular scenery, warm weather and unforgettable experiences made it a holiday I'll never forget!

WHAT’S SOMETHING ON YOUR ‘BUCKET LIST’? I would love to travel overseas because to date I have only visited New Zealand. As part of this travel, I would love to complete the Camino Trail.

WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO BECOME A TEACHER? I’ve always had a passion for working with children, learning and teaching. Teaching felt like the perfect career choice because it combines all three of these passions.

One of the things that I love most about being a teacher is that learning never stops. Every day brings new experiences, challenges and opportunities to grow, both for my students and myself.

Being able to inspire a love of learning in children while continuing my own learning journey makes teaching an incredibly rewarding profession.

WHAT DO YOU ENJOY OR VALUE THE MOST ABOUT WORKING AT CHAIRO? I love the strong Christian worldview and the opportunity to teach from a biblical perspective.

However, what stands out even more is the incredible culture within the Drouin East campus community. The relationships between staff members, students and parents are built on genuine care, respect and support.

Having worked in many different workplaces over the past 25 years, I can confidently say that the culture at Chairo Drouin East is very special and unlike anything I have experienced elsewhere.

WHAT IS YOUR DEEP HOPE IN WORKING AT CHAIRO? My deepest hope is that every student and parent feels genuinely loved, valued and heard within our school community. I want each child to know that they are uniquely created by God, with their own gifts, strengths and purpose.

My desire is to help students grow not only academically, but also socially, emotionally and spiritually, so they can confidently reach their full God-given potential.

I also hope that parents feel supported, respected and partnered with as we work together to help their children flourish and become all that God has created them to be.

What an incredible celebration of CBCA Book Week 2026 at Chairo Drouin! For the first time, Senior School students joined Middle School students for a combined parade in Tyson Hall, creating a vibrant celebration of reading.

Students and staff members embraced the occasion with outstanding participation, bringing favourite book characters and stories to life through creative costumes, including many imaginative group themes.

The library team also launched Drouin Library Genre Collectibles, an exciting initiative encouraging students and staff members to broaden their reading across a range of genres. By registering their reading with the library, participants can collect Genre Collectible tokens while discovering new books and authors.

Thank you to our students and staff members for making this year's parade such a memorable celebration of reading, creativity and community.

Well done to the three Manns … Wesley (Year 6), Elenor (Year 4) and Holly (Year 2) … who represented Chairo at last week’s Interschools Snowsport Championships at Mt Buller. They had an excellent time and came home with some great results!

Wesley (Div 4) competed in Ski Cross and Moguls, as well as Multiclass Giant Slalom, where he finished first, while Eleanor (Div 5) competed in Ski Cross and Multiclass Giant Slalom, also finishing first.

Holly competed in Division 6, stepping up to Division 5 for Moguls and finishing forty-sixth out of seventy-five starters. Her Ski Cross was a great effort, going from thirty-second in qualifying to fifteenth in the final. She also finished first in Multiclass Giant Slalom!

Wesley, Eleanor and Holly will now compete in the Australian Interschools Snowsport Championships at Perisher in early September, all three in the Giant Slalom and Holly also in Ski Cross.

The Interschools Snowsport Championships provides an opportunity for Australian school students of all ages to experience competitive snow sports and to participate at either a recreational or competitive level. Anyone who can ski or snowboard is able to enter, and they represent their schools in any of nine disciple events.
