Last week we were invited to share in a wonderful Eid al-Ghadeer celebration with our English students and fabulous tutor Khatima at Strathaird Primary School.

It was an honour to share a beautiful iftar in such warm company, and the homemade Afghan food was delicious.

Thank you to everyone involved for your lovely hospitality. We wish you and everyone else in our community who are celebrating Eid al-Ghadeer Mubarak.

This week, 27 May to 3 June is National Reconciliation Week (NRW).

Reconciliation is about strengthening relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the wider Australian community, for the benefit of all Australians.

National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia by building relationships, respect, and trust between the wider Australian community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

The theme for National Reconciliation Week 2026 is All In, a call for all Australians to commit wholeheartedly to reconciliation every single day.

πŸ™ This week is National Volunteer Week, a time to celebrate our volunteers and thank them for all the valuable work they do.

2026 is the United Nations International Year of Volunteers for Sustainable Development. Our volunteers are crucial to the sustainability of Doveton Neighbourhood Learning Centre, we could not do the work we do without their help and support.

Volunteers are the lifeblood of our organisation - running our emergency food aid service, assisting and connecting with all the participants in our social support groups, and providing meaningful contributions across our organisation.

πŸ™‹ National Volunteer Week was established in 1989, and this year the theme is 'Your Year To Volunteer'. If you would like to find out more about volunteering opportunities at Doveton Neighbourhood Learning Centre, call us on 03 9791 1449 or email [email protected] πŸ™‹β€β™‚
