Cascade EEC hosted the Rural and Remote Conference this week, lovingly know as WESTIES! A collaboration of like minded educators who are revolutionizing environmental education as we know it.

Thank you for leaning in to the Cascade vibe, having the flexibilty to pivot when needed and for sharing your knowledge and amazing expertise in the field.

Our schools are so blessed to have the support of their local Environmental Education Centres, delivering engaging, curriculum-aligned programs that inspire curiosity, foster a love of learning, and connect students with the natural world.

Through authentic, hands-on experiences, EECs help bring learning to life while planting the seeds of environmental stewardship, sustainability, and a lifelong commitment to caring for our planet. NAIDOC week brings First Scientist's lessons as we soak banglow palm leaves to make water carriers and watch small leaf tamarinds sprout in abundance! With the wet season comes more baby banglaow palms than we know what do with; new and exciting fungi popping up daily; and stink horns grow.

🌱 EMPOWERING LISMORE'S YOUTH THROUGH ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION! 🌱From 2–4 June, Sustainability Outreach 2026 is bringing critical environmental learning directly to five of our local public schools! 🏫✨Organised by the Environmental and Zoo Education Centre (EZEC) network and coordinated locally by Dorroughby EEC, this decades-old initiative supports and uplifts Lismore schools impacted by flooding. Over three action-packed days, more than 29 volunteer presenters from across NSW will deliver hands-on sustainability workshops to over 900 local students!
We are turning eco-anxiety into positive, hopeful action just in time for World Environment Day 2026! 🌏💚🎒
What our ES1 to Stage 3 students will be doing:🐝 Building native bee hotels🐝 Making reusable beeswax wraps🌱 Planting local riparian zones📝 Practicing nature-themed math & outdoor journaling 🔥 Make firesticks 🔥 and much more!
