The Weekly Wire Spanish Day - Episode 8 🇪🇸💃 🎥

🏺✨ Things are really heating up in the MMS Art Room! 🔥🎨

Every two years, teaching clay is my absolute favourite time with the students. There’s something truly magical about watching soft, squishy earth transform into hard stone through heat, a perfect little mix of science and art! 🧪🎨

As our students sculpt, shape and squish their way through this unit, they explore weight, mass, form, positive and negative space, and discover what happens when materials are put under pressure (literally! 😂).

Every year I teach ceramics, I get a little better at guiding the process but the students continue to clay-me away with their creativity! 🤩

And this year, we reached a major milestone… 🎉
ZERO. KILN. EXPLOSIONS. 💥🚫🔥

That’s right! We successfully transported their bone-dry, incredibly fragile creations for a 17-hour bake at volcano temperatures 🌋🔥. It takes a fair bit of faith to hand over your delicate artwork and trust that it will come back stronger, sturdier and ready for its next stage.

Thankfully, everything came out rock solid! 🪨🙌

From fairy doors 🧚‍♀️🚪 and gnome homes 🧙‍♂️🏡 to coral reefs 🪸🌊, pinch pots 🏺, and beautiful glazed cups and bowls from our Seniors ☕✨, the results were absolutely incredible.

It’s messy. It’s hands-on. It’s creative. It’s scientific. And sometimes… it’s a little bit un-kiln-vinced until you open that kiln! 😂

What a fantastic journey through ceramics, design and sculpture and what a privilege to watch our students turn a lump of earth into something uniquely their own. 💛

Most of all, it’s inspiring to see the students’ ideas take shape right before our eyes. Their creativity, imagination and willingness to experiment remind us that the best art often begins with simply getting your hands dirty, having a go, and seeing where the process takes you. 🌱🎨✨

You could say we’re pretty fired up about these creations! 🔥🎨👏

🍫✨ Pure imagination came to life at our Book Week celebration! ✨📚
Our amazing staff took a trip to the Chocolate Factory for Book Week this year, with W***y Wonka, Oompa Loompas and plenty of chocolatey fun running around the school! 🍫🎩🧡💚

They really raised the bar when it came to Book Week costumes! 😜🍫 We were sweetly impressed by the creativity, commitment and enthusiasm our staff showed. They certainly went the extra mile to bring Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to life and make the day one our students will never forget! 🍭✨

A huge THANK YOU to our wonderful staff for always being willing to join in the fun. Your efforts were truly golden ticket worthy! 🎟️💛 We appreciate all the time, effort and imagination that went into making the day so special. ❤️📚

Friday’s Book Week celebration was nothing short of magical! 🪄📖 From storybook heroes and fantastical characters to much loved favourites, our students and staff truly dressed to impress! 👑🦸‍♀️🧙‍♂️🐻

We were blown away by the incredible commitment, creativity and enthusiasm everyone showed with their costumes. It was wonderful to see our whole school community come together and turn the page on an unforgettable day, all while celebrating something we love so much: the joy, wonder and importance of reading. ❤️📚

As Roald Dahl so beautifully said:
“If you are going to get anywhere in life you have to read a lot of books.” 📖✨

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make our Book Week celebration such a story to remember! 💫

🌧️ Rain, rain, go away… or actually, stay! 😄 Our awesome Junior 1s didn’t let a little wet weather dampen their lunchtime fun yesterday! ☔️

With the wet day timetable in full swing, there was still plenty of smiles, giggles and good times to brighten up the day. 🤩✨

Because when it comes to Junior 1 fun, there’s no such thing as a rain check! 💚🩶

What an incredible achievement for our school community! We are so incredibly proud of the amazing effort shown by all of our students and the incredible support from our wider school community. 💙

Together, we raised an incredible $2,323.30! 🎉🙌

A huge thank you to every student, family, staff member and community member who contributed, supported, donated and helped make this possible. Our school community has once again shown just how generous, caring and amazing we are to support the Ronald McDonald House Victoria & Tasmania💙

What an incredible effort — we couldn’t be prouder!👏✨
