Our Year 9 Athlete Development Academy Class continued our partnership with Athletic Fuel School by hosting Ange to present 4 seminars to our students. Students learnt a wide range of topics related to sport nutrition including: game-day fuel, post-game recovery, breakdown of food groups and most importantly healthy relationships with food.

What an incredible Book Week we had across the College last week!

Students enjoyed a range of exciting activities throughout the week, celebrating the joy of reading, storytelling and imagination. A highlight was Tuesday’s whole College dress up day, which featured our much loved Primary Years Book Week Parade. Congratulations to our incredible ‘Beauty and the Beast’ cast and crew for an absolutely magical three show run.

From the stunning vocals, amazing choreography, acting, teamwork, mixed in with hard work from every rehearsal, our HGC students brought this tale as old as time to life beautifully.

Thank you to our community for rallying behind our production, including selling out our Friday night show. We hope you enjoyed the performances.

Last week was Science Week and students got to participate in a range of fun activities across the week.

One of those activities that students could participate in was a lunchtime practical investigation exploring the question, “Do seeds respire?”.

Students tested both germinated and ungerminated beans at different temperatures using a carbon dioxide detector to measure respiration rates. The data collected was then analysed and used to create graphs with scientific graphing software, allowing students to identify patterns and compare the effects of temperature and germination on respiration.

This engaging activity provided students with a hands-on opportunity to apply scientific inquiry skills, collect and analyse data, and deepen their understanding of the life processes of plants.

Another exciting practical students got to participate in was crystal making.

Thank you to all our science staff members for organsing an enjoyable and educational science week and to all our lab techs for assisting as well.

Year 12 VCEVM Students Support Doreen CFA!

Our Year 12 VCEVM students recently organised and ran a Senior School BBQ to raise funds for the Doreen CFA as part of their Personal Development Skills Community Project. With the support of Mr Marshall, Mr Kapuranovski and Mrs Baccini, Emory, Kayne, Lachlan, Lucas and Jordan did an amazing job planning and running the event, raising an impressive $400 for the CFA.

Year Level Leader and CFA member Lucie Gallagher also invited the CFA crew along, with a fire truck making a special appearance at the event. It was fantastic to see our students giving back to the local community while supporting an organisation that does so much for others.

HGC proudly supports the Doreen CFA and thanks them for their ongoing commitment to our community!
