Today is an important day to acknowledge for many reasons.

One reason is because today is Indigenous Literacy Day.

Indigenous Literacy Day (ILD) is a national celebration of First Nations peoples’ stories, cultures and languages created by the Indigenous Literacy Foundation.

Embracing First Nations perspectives in early childhood education supports a strong sense of identity for Indigenous children while building empathy, respect, and cultural awareness in ALL children.

Culturally safe spaces help children grow up strong in their culture, supported by their families and communities.

There are endless benefits for children. Learning about the world’s oldest continuous living cultures from an early age fosters deep respect and reduces prejudice.

It connects children to Country. Children develop an appreciation for nature, ancient knowledge systems, and the local community.

Early exposure builds the foundational awareness needed for a shared national understanding and a reconciled future.

It was an especially perfect day today as we had the opportunity to show some wonderful people from the City of Whittlesea through our service after being recognised for providing a high-quality, Indigenous-inspired environments that supports inclusion, connection and learning.

Every now and then, we need to stop and look around at the people beside us and remember just how lucky we are to have found each other.

Because amongst the busy days, the chaos and the laughter, we’ve created something really special. We’ve created us.

We’re not just a group of people who work together. We genuinely care about each other. We show up for one another.

We’ve been through a lot together (especially these past few months). We have shared big moments, little moments, incredibly difficult moments and some of the most beautiful moments.

Through all of it, we kept showing up.

For you.
For your children.
For each other.

That’s what makes Butterflies so special.

After going through so much change and transition, we truly believe we have proven that Butterflies in not a place, it’s a feeling. It’s a family.

It’s us.

What this team does for the children and the families - it’s honestly, above and beyond.

There will always be challenges. There will always be moments where we face hard things, but one thing we never have to worry about is doing it alone.

We have built so much more than a workplace. We’ve built a place where children can be little, loud, messy and embraced. Hey, we’ve built somewhere that adults can be these things too!

We started as a small family with a big dream. None of this could happen without our team.
Our educators, managers and cooks are the heart and soul of Butterflies.

This is a wonderful opportunity for Hello Photo to capture special memories and celebrate the smiles, personalities, and unique moments of our children 📷💙

We have been working with Hello Photo for many years now and always receive compliments on the quality of the images.

A very proud moment at Butterflies!

We’re incredibly excited to announce that we have been chosen as one of the stops on the City of Whittlesea’s Indigenous Inspired Places Bus Tour.

We feel so proud and honoured to be recognised as providing a high-quality, Indigenous-inspired environment that supports inclusion, connection and learning.

The tour gives educators and families the opportunity to visit inspiring spaces and deepen their understanding and appreciation of Indigenous culture and we are so grateful to be able to share a little piece of our Butterflies journey with them.

Embedding Indigenous perspectives into our environment and our everyday learning is something that is really important to us. It’s about creating meaningful, inclusive opportunities for our children to learn, connect and develop respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, perspectives and stories.

We’re very proud of the space we’ve created together, and even prouder that it has been recognised as somewhere worth sharing with others.

We can’t wait to share what makes our little Butterflies community so special 🦋💛

Tomorrow is Red Nose Day.
It is an annual major fundraising and awareness campaign dedicated to stopping sudden and unexpected infant deaths, supporting safe sleep and pregnancy education, and providing grief counseling for families who have lost a child.

Red Nose funds research by investing in medical studies to understand and prevent SIDS and stillbirth.
They have contributed to an 80% reduction in sudden infant deaths through evidence-based safe sleep programs and offer 24/7 phone support to families, peer groups, and specialist bereavement counseling.

There’s something really special about a community that has been built over time.

For 15 years, we’ve had the privilege of being part of so many families’ lives. We’ve watched tiny little people grow, we’ve celebrated first steps, birthdays, friendships, kinder graduations and all those little moments in between that somehow become the memories we remember most.

And somewhere along the way, our centre has become more than just a place children come each day.

It’s become a community.

Built on trust, mutual respect, resilience and genuine care for one another. A community where families trust us with the most precious people in their lives, and where our educators pour so much of themselves into the children they care for.

That means everything to us.

We know that choosing somewhere for your child to spend their early years is a huge decision. You’re trusting us with a piece of your heart and we never take that for granted.

When you walk through those doors, you are our community.

And we’re so incredibly grateful ❤️
