Confidence, connection and a few new dance moves! 💃🕺

Our Year 10 students recently celebrated the culmination of their Ballroom Dancing Program with students from Our Lady of Sion College at Box Hill Town Hall.

Over several weeks, students stepped outside their comfort zones, developed new friendships and built confidence through shared learning and plenty of practice.

The presentation evening was a wonderful celebration of their efforts and the connections formed between our two school communities.

Congratulations to all involved, and thank you to the staff and families who supported the program.

🎙️ What helps young people stay connected to school?

In the latest episode of Friars’ Focus, Mark Murphy explores three simple but powerful ideas: Passion, Purpose and People.

He reflects on how these can help build belonging, motivation and connection for young people, and how they come to life at Whitefriars through learning, service, activities and relationships.

TBT | Whitefriars Day 2026 💚

With a group of Whitefriars students and staff soon heading to Timor-Leste, today feels like the perfect time to look back on Whitefriars Day 2026.

Our community came together for liturgy, heard from inspiring Old Collegian Ben Duffy (Class of 2022) about his incredible 52 marathons in 52 weeks challenge for the Pat Cronin Foundation, and walked in solidarity with the young people of Timor-Leste.

The rest of the day was filled with activities, connection and plenty of laughter, with our Vocational Major students also playing a huge role in cooking and serving lunch for the College community.

A wonderful day celebrating faith, service and what it means to be part of Whitefriars.

🌱 Student voice in action

Whitefriars students Evan Y., Thomas S. and Jackson C. recently attended the Climate Action Education Forum, hosted by Deakin University.

The forum gave students the opportunity to explore climate action through the lens of leadership and student voice. They examined where emissions come from across areas such as energy, transport, agriculture, industry and waste, and learnt about the important difference between climate mitigation, reducing the causes of climate change, and climate adaptation, preparing communities for its impacts.

Students also explored practical responses including renewable energy, sustainable transport, reducing food waste, improving energy efficiency, conserving water, greening and cooling our spaces, building climate-resilient infrastructure and strengthening emergency preparedness.

A key message from the day was that meaningful climate action involves everyone, with governments, businesses, communities and individuals each having a role to play.

It was a valuable opportunity for Evan, Thomas and Jackson to hear from experts, contribute their own perspectives and consider how young people can help shape positive change within their schools and wider communities.
