After a wonderful week away, our students were sad to say goodbye to Coral Bay. We've heard that their trip was unforgettable and we’re happy that they took advantage of the lovely weather and the stunning coast. It was also a great opportunity for our staff and students to build new connections with another Perth school by sharing their campsite with a group from Leeming Senior High School Education Support Centre!
Each morning began with breakfast and a briefing of the day before diving into a full day of activities. Highlights included a visit from marine biologist Frazer McGregor, who provided insightful information about the distinctive marine life along the coast, a Department of Fire and Emergency Services WA tour, and a snorkelling tour in Ningaloo where students swam with manta rays. Oh, and did you also know that “Nyinggulu” is the traditional Baiyungu name for the Ningaloo Coast?
Additionally, our students participated in the DBCA Community Weeding Project (Parks and Wildlife Service, Western Australia) where they worked hard to remove kapok weeds, weeds that have a negative impact on the native vegetation in the area. Their work helped to maintain the health of our coastal environment and safeguard local wildlife.
A heartfelt thank you to Lotterywest, for without their support to our Bush Rangers program, this valuable opportunity for our staff and students to learn, connect and give back to the local community would not have been possible!

Before the day ends, we encourage our community to take a moment to recognise that today is also Mabo Day. This day represents an important milestone in Australia’s journey towards justice, honouring Eddie Mabo and the recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander land rights.
As National Reconciliation Week comes to a close, we are reminded that reconciliation is ongoing. Our commitment continues beyond this week, through everyday actions grounded in understanding, respect and connection.

Welcome to Makuru – the Noongar Winter Season.
Makuru marks the arrival of winter and is often referred to as the season of fertility. During this time, many birds and animals begin to form pairs in readiness for breeding when the weather becomes warmer.
This season brings the first of the heavy rains, nourishing the land and prompting the flowering of the bright scarlet banksia. Fire continues to play an important role throughout Makuru, used for warmth, cooking, hunting, and as a way to communicate across Country.
