There’s no LiL over the school holidays, but there’s plenty to do at the Devonport Community House!

🎉 The first week of school holidays is here! 🎉

We can’t wait to see you all at our Big Holiday Bash at Highfield Park this Wednesday from 1pm! Come along for an afternoon of games, activities, fun and a yummy BBQ. 🌭🎈

Then head over to The House on Thursday morning for some delicious pancakes! 🥞

🏠 Housing Choices Tasmania will also be joining us on Thursday from 9.30am–10.30am for any drop-in questions or enquiries tenants may have.

Please note our opening hours are a little different this week due to school holiday staff shortages, so make sure you check when you can pop into The House.

🌟 Our littlest learners loved exploring with shaving foam during Term 3! Why not continue the fun at home over the holidays? Here are some simple, hands-on shaving foam activities that encourage creativity, fine motor skills and early learning through play. ✨🫧

Adding New Words During Shaving Foam Play
Shaving foam play is a wonderful opportunity to build your child's vocabulary. As you play together, talk about what your child is doing and introduce new words naturally in conversation.

Try using words such as:
⭐ Action words (what your child is doing):
squish, spread, swirl, mix, scoop, slide, draw, erase
⭐ Describing words (what your child can see and feel):
smooth, fluffy, foamy, soft, slippery, thick, creamy
⭐ Concept words (to explain what is happening):
more, less, bigger, smaller, across, under, over, beside
For example:
• Child: "It's soft!"
• Adult: "It is! The shaving foam feels very fluffy and smooth. Can you spread it across the tray?"

Repeating new words throughout play helps children hear, understand and begin to use them themselves. Simple conversations like these are a fun way to support language development while enjoying sensory play together. 😊

Thank you to all our amazing families for coming along, joining in, and supporting early learning for your children.

We’ll be taking a two‑week break over the school holidays and look forward to welcoming everyone back on 19 October. 🎨 📖 🎶 💦

Bring a water bottle and piece of fruit
