Today we held our annual R U OK? Tradies Breakfast and Toolbox Talk, bringing together local tradespeople, school students, and representatives from SRWC, Workforce Australia, and TAFE NSW Finley.

A highlight of the morning was a powerful and deeply personal story shared by Jesmine. Her courage and honesty touched us all, reminding us why conversations about mental health, connection, and checking in on one another are so important.

A warm welcome to our newest staff member of the Deniliquin Campus and surrounding districts. Weโ€™re thrilled to have you join our Team!๐Ÿ˜Š

A minute with our new teacher - Kylie

๐Ÿ’ฌ What inspired you to make the move into a new role at TAFE NSW

I was inspired to move into teaching because I enjoy helping people learn and develop new skills. After working in a state-wide, Business Systems Helpdesk role, I was looking for an opportunity to work more closely with students and make a meaningful difference in my local communities of Deniliquin, Finley and Hay

๐Ÿ’ฌ How has the transition been so far? Has anything surprised you?

The transition has been very positive, thanks to the wonderful Head Teacher, Leonie Francis and her whole team in the Equity, foundation skills, Aboriginal culture & languages, who have helped guide me through processes and have given constructive advice. What has surprised me most is the diversity of student experiences and how rewarding it is to see their confidence and skills grow throughout their learning journey.

๐Ÿ’ฌ What do you enjoy most about your new position?

What I enjoy most about my new position is the opportunity to work directly with students and support them in achieving their goals. It is rewarding to see their confidence grow as they develop new skills and knowledge, and to know I have played a part in their learning journey.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Which TAFE NSW campuses do you support, and what does a typical day look like for you?

I support the TAFE NSW - Deniliquin TAFE NSW - Finley and TAFE NSW - Hay campuses. A typical day involves delivering training, supporting students, preparing learning activities and completing assessments. The role is diverse and rewarding, and everyday is different as it isnโ€™t all study, study, studyโ€ฆ. we have a lot of fun during our classes too.

๐Ÿ’ฌ What skills or experiences from your previous role have helped you succeed in your new one?

The communication, relationship-building and problem-solving skills I developed in my state-wide BSSHD role have been invaluable in my transition to teaching, helping me support students and adapt to their individual needs.

๐Ÿ’ฌ What advice would you give to someone considering a career change or exploring new opportunities within TAFE NSW?

Don't underestimate the value of your existing skills. My move from a state-wide BSSHD role to teaching showed me how transferable communication, problem-solving and relationship-building skills are. Be open to learning, embrace new challenges and accept feedback.

๐Ÿ’ฌ What's been the most rewarding part of your journey so far?

The most rewarding part has been building relationships with students and seeing their growth. Helping them gain confidence, develop skills and achieve their goals is incredibly fulfilling.
