This morning we decided to go for a walk to visit my mum as one friend had brought in some eggs to share with her. While we were there we spent time playing with the peg boards, car mat and of course read several stories together. My mum is a regular visitor at care, sometimes accompanying us on regular outings, sometimes visiting us and assisting with craft or cooking and she usually can’t escape without reading a book or ten! We like to visit her too and with the weather beginning to cool down (a little) and new friends becoming more comfortable at care we will begin to go on regular outings more often.

🐉 😋 Dragon Fruit 😋🐉
Have you ever eaten dragon fruit? Today one friend brought one in for us to share at morning tea. We began by passing it around, it had spiky looking parts on it but they were actually soft and it was smooth. We took turns in guessing what colour it was going to be inside - blue, yellow, purple and green were the guesses … but it was white with little black dots! Everyone was eager to taste so we peeled the skin off and were a little surprised it was soft but also crunchy. Two friends thought it was yummy and ate several pieces each, while the others had a taste but decided it wasn’t their favourite fruit. It’s always nice to try new things, you never know what you might like the taste of.
Why is it called dragon fruit? We’re not sure, but we didn’t get firey dragon breathe after eating it like one friend thought we might!

Our local show was held over the weekend and it was lovely to see so many friends looking through the pavilion with their families showing them the different things they had entered and seeing the excitement on their faces as they noticed the certificates they or their friends had won. We also had some group success with artworks and our basket full of home grown veggies won first place! We are looking forward to using our new pink fork in our garden beds and veggie patch.
A big thank you to all of the committee members and volunteers who put the show together each year for us to enjoy.

We have been busy preparing entries for our local show that is on this weekend and today’s friends spent time decorating biscuits … and at the end there was some leftover icing so everyone made an extra biscuit to have at morning tea … what a delicious treat! We look forward to heading to the show on Saturday and seeing all of the entries in the pavilion.

This week we have been enjoying some delicious fruit together at morning tea thanks to a lovely friend who gifted me a box of fruit and vegetables. We have loved eating the nashies, donut peaches and plums, for some it was their first time trying these fruits.

Birthdays are something that should always be celebrated and recently we have had two friends celebrate their birthdays at care. We hung balloons and streamers in the playroom to make it festive, the birthday girls could wear our birthday crown if they wanted, we sang them ‘Happy Birthday’ watched them blow out their candles and all enjoyed some cake together. One friend brought in some cakes to share and I had also made some for her … so she decided to have two birthday days here and spread the cakes over two days (l think birthday celebrations should always go for a couple of days!)

Over the weekend I have set up a new program and I am looking forward to seeing where the children take it. I lay the foundations of ideas or topics based on the children’s interests or cultural events happening and then add to or adapt as the children interact with each area/resources. Some areas we will explore are Lunar New Year, Emergency Management Plans/Drills including the different services that help in an emergency and the group has a strong interest in farms and farm animals so I have continued on with this and set up a new small world farm play area.

💦🫟🛝Outdoors Early 🛝🫟💦
With extreme warm weather expected today we made sure to get outside early to play before it got too hot. We enjoyed playing on the slide and rocking horse in the shade, drawing with chalk (with much excitement as it was brand new out of the box!) and water play with lots of filling and pouring. We are now inside and staying cool with the air conditioning on.

Care is back for 2026
The cleaning of resources has been done, a new program written, areas of play set up and friends have been greeting each other warmly as well as welcoming new friends to care and showing them how things work here. I’m sure we are in for successful year of learning and fun together.
