💛 R U OK? Day 💛

R U OK? Day is a reminder to look out for the people around us and take the time to check in. Sometimes checking in means starting a conversation. Sometimes it means listening. Sometimes it’s simply making sure the people around us know they’re supported.

So much of my role is centred around caring for children, but I think it’s just as important to remember the people raising them, supporting them and showing up for them every day.

So today, I surprised my little friends’ families with a home-cooked dinner to take home. It was a simple way for me to offer them some extra support and make their evening a little easier.

If today is the reminder you needed to reach out to someone, please take the time to do it. 🫶🏼

EXPLORING BUGS 🐞🪲🐌🐛🐜

This morning, one of my little friends asked, “Can we play with bugs in the big green tray today?”

So, we went hunting through the pantry, fridge and toy room to see what we could find, and I used our collection of bits and pieces to put together a bug sensory tray ready for him and his friends to explore.

My little friend was very impressed, telling me, “It’s the coolest bug world I’ve ever seen!” Safe to say, it was a hit and kept all of my little friends busy exploring for hours!

I love being able to follow my little friends’ ideas and turn their requests into something they can completely lose themselves in. I have a feeling a few more big green tray requests might be coming my way after today.

DINO DIG SITE 🦕🦖🦴

This dramatic play space has been a big hit with my little friends, with lots of digging, brushing, sifting and discovering as they step into the role of little palaeontologists.

Through play, they’ve been exploring dinosaurs, bones and fossils while building curiosity, extending their knowledge and developing new language through conversations and discoveries.

To all the incredible educators I have encountered throughout my career, and those beyond, Happy Early Childhood Educators’ Day.

I know firsthand the dedication it takes to wear so many hats, juggle endless responsibilities, and still show up each day with love, patience and passion for the children whose days you help shape.

I hope today reminds you just how important, valued and appreciated the work you do truly is.

I’ve certainly felt all the love today. I’ve been absolutely spoilt, and I’m forever saying it, but I truly do have the most wonderful families who surround me with so much love, support and appreciation, not just today but every day. 🤍✨

✨📚 BOOK WEEK BOOKSHELF 📚✨

This week we’ve been celebrating Children’s Book Week and this year’s theme, “Symphony of Stories,” which celebrates the many different stories that make reading so special.

If you know me, you’ll know how much I love reading, and sharing that love of reading with my little friends is something that is incredibly important to me.

Books are a big part of our days here, whether they’re being chosen from our bookshelf, shared together at group time or used alongside our learning experiences to extend interests and ideas.

For Book Week, I wanted to create a special way to extend that love of reading beyond our service and into the homes of my little friends and their families.

Throughout the week, my little friends have been invited to browse the Book Week Bookshelf and choose some books of their very own to take home and add to their collection.

A simple Book Week experience encouraging choice, independence and, most importantly, a lifelong love of books and reading.

I’m so honoured to share that I’ve been named a finalist in the 2026 ALIBI Awards in not just one, but three categories:

✨ Educator/Coach of the Year
✨ Regional Service Superstar
✨ Rising Star

A huge thank you to the beautiful person who nominated me. I’m so incredibly grateful. 🥹

At the heart of this recognition are the children and families in my service, who are the reason I get to do what I love each day.

I’ll be heading off to Orange in October for the awards, and I’m really looking forward to celebrating alongside and meeting so many other incredible women in business.

Win or not, being named a finalist already feels like such an achievement. ✨

SEEDS OF SCIENCE 🫘🌱🔎

This week for National Science Week, we investigated all things beans as we explored this year’s theme, Seeds of Science: Nurturing Knowledge for All.

My little friends explored different types of beans through sensory play, noticing their colours, shapes, sizes and textures and sharing lots of observations and questions along the way. We also explored how a bean grows, from seed to sprout and beyond.

They also made their own little ziplock greenhouses to take home, giving them the opportunity to continue the investigation with their families as they watch their seeds begin to sprout and grow.

So much curiosity, observation and discovery sparked by something as simple as a bean.

A very special little milestone was celebrated at Kirsty’s Family Day Care today 🦷🧚‍♀️✨

One of my little friends lost her very first tooth, making it an exciting milestone for her and a special first for Kirsty’s Family Day Care too, as she is the very first little friend to lose a tooth while in care here.

Of course, we had to make a big deal out of such an exciting moment. We kept her tiny tooth safe, wrote a special letter to the Tooth Fairy, and put together a special little goodie bag for her to take home.

I think there is something so special about celebrating the milestones that make up childhood, whether they are big, small or somewhere in between. Every child only gets one childhood, and being able to celebrate these little milestones, make a fuss over the moments that matter to them and add a little extra magic along the way is one of the most rewarding parts of my job.

🌱🪱 WRIGGLY WORMS 🪱🌱

Last month, my little friends discovered some worms while digging in the garden, and what started as a simple discovery soon became a much bigger interest.

To continue that interest, we set up our very own worm observer. My little friends helped prepare the worms’ new home by layering the soil, adding the worms and including some food scraps.

Since then, we’ve been busy observing and investigating, watching the tunnels appear through the soil, checking on the food scraps and noticing the changes taking place inside the observer.

This natural extension of my little friends’ own interests has also introduced important conversations about caring for living things, sustainability, composting and the important role worms play in our environment.

☁️ PYJAMA WEEK FUNDRAISER ☁️

What a week! My little friends and I had the best time dressing up in our pyjamas, all while raising money for children in foster care.

Our goal this year was to raise $500 for The Pyjama Foundation, and we’re so proud to have exceeded it by raising an amazing $710. For such a small service, this is something we’re incredibly proud of.

Thank you to everyone who donated and supported our fundraiser. Every single donation is so deeply appreciated and will help make a real difference to children who need it most. 🫶🏼
